Compost worms
Anyone know where to buy composting worms? I want to start a worm farm at home and have made a few inquiries around town, but no luck so far.
I don't wear elephant pants.
I know this Singaporean guy who uses earthworms to manufacture organic fertilizer from waste vegetables. His factory is somewhere on Hanoi Road, before Russian Blvd nearer to Phnom Penh Thmey. Sorry I can't be more precise and also I don't know if his worms are for sale. He did mentioned they were special-bred.
i've seen them very long ago... somewhere in PP there is a live animal market that sells birds and turtles and they also sell many kind of worms. lost my compass on the location unfortunately.
I just called someone work at www.cedac.org.kh. They sell one kind of composting worm (red worm or in Khmer called ជន្លេនក្រហម), the price is 2.5$/kg but only sell in wholesale for 10kg. If you want the contact, pm me.

Stick a stake in the ground and rub the head of it with a piece of metal like an axe head. The vibration will cause them to come to the top. Just be sure you are in a location known to have worms. It does't take many to start a farm. They are great for organic gardening. Worm castings are anyways. Take a look at this, it is pretty easy.Lara Apsara wrote:Anyone know where to buy composting worms? I want to start a worm farm at home and have made a few inquiries around town, but no luck so far.

We've always called it worm grunting. We even have a festival over here every year http://www.wormgruntinfestival.com. I've heard it called both depending on which part of the state you're from. It is crazy to see how many actually come to the surface.Fred Edwards wrote:^^ It's called Worm Charming.....

Does anyone know if this technique actually works in Asia? It seems the sound may emulate the voracious mole, which can eat its weight in worms daily. But I see it's only been cultivated in SE USA, and the UK, where moles live and thrive in their cooler climate.FSU_Noles wrote:Stick a stake in the ground and rub the head of it with a piece of metal like an axe head. AFAIK, I don't know if moles are in SE Asia, so maybe the worms here never learned the defense mechanism to rise to the surface when they hear a given vibration.
So, does worm grunting work in SE Asia, outside of the mole territories of the USA and the UK?

It works, yes - in places with moles. Has anybody successfully charmed worms /worm grunted in SE Asia?
I don't think so. Might not work here ...
