If poor people don't matter, why spend so much trying to impress them, right?

Who's criticising Khmers for it? Most of the Rolls here are driver by Khmers, you aren't making any sense.vladimir wrote:As miserable as having to defend ostentatious behaviour, but criticising Khmers for it?
You're projecting a motive that makes no sense (showing off, in a country where most people have no idea it's an expensive car). The more likely motive is that they are really, really nice cars to drive and to be driven in. As mentioned already, if they wanted an impractical but flashy car they would (and sometimes do) buy a lambo instead. The only thing I can think of that is more suitable and comfortable for being driven around in Phnom Penh traffic than a Rolls would be a Klassen (or Brabus) Merc sprinter conversion, and they usually cost about twice as much as a Rolls.vladimir wrote:I'm criticising the unsuitability/motive for buying the car, not how much it cost.

Shows how much you know.... Next time you see one point it out to a moto driver and ask if he thinks it costs more or less than a merc or audi. I have yet to meet a non-rich Khmer who has any idea that they are especially expensive cars. Others in this thread have also posted that they found this to be the case.vladimir wrote:Oh, fuck off. They have no idea Rolls Royce is an expensive car?

It was a response to your statement that you hate ostentatious people and would rather drive an audi or a merc. In a country where audis and mercs are assumed to be more expensive, that would make you more ostentatious than a Rolls driver.....vladimir wrote:You didn't write whether they thought it was more or less expensive than an Audi/Merc, and I didn't respond in that vein.
You wrote that they had no idea that it was expensive. Read what I quoted.
Which is absolute BS.
Right?

I now remember why I gave up arguing with idiots on forums. Thanks for the reminder....vladimir wrote:My objection to Rolls/Bentley is based purely on subjectivity, road suitability, and my dislike of ostentatious people......Except that I don't care about being ostentatious....I just think Audi/Merc/Volvo would be a far more sensible choice
