Connection between Battambang and US refugees??

The majority of Khmer I meet in the US have family ties to B bong from the early 80's flight. Why so many from Battambang and not other provincial cities?

They seem to be all over the country. The younger ones (younger than 40) were probably deported for a serious crime. Most seem to have lived in LA.

They all came to the US from the Thai border camps. Obviously the people in the Thai border camps will be from the West of Cambodia with Battambang being the largest in terms of population.

It also explains their wing nut political ideas. All the rival groups in the camps were anti-Vietnamese, which is about all they could agree on.

All the moneyed Khmers fled to Paris, the US took whichever illiterate rice farmers could sing Kumbaya the loudest.
