Happy pizza - miserable staff
Why are the staff in the so-called, happy pizza restaurants on PP riverside so fcuking miserable?
FFS, they remind me of ex #2...
Nothing but unsmiling, glowering faces from both genders!
Is this normal for PP restaurant staff, or a special service provided just for me?

It's normal in 80% of the places in this country except in Siem Reap. At first I thought that it may be a race thing but no, they are just as sad, miserable and aloof when dealing with white people too. Come to think of it, so are most of you white people who live here (the customers). White proprietors and staff (including Russians) are friendlier on average- as they're probably delusional.
The 7 reasons not to move to Cambodia article sums it up fairly well. I think it's amazing that these people don't kill themselves. Of course you'd be miserable too if you were stuck in a country with a such a terrible past and bleak future. And even more so if you were born here and have limited freedom of travel because of your worthless passport.
They are more cheerful in Siem Reap, probably because of the constant flow of tourists and better economic conditions.

Might not be a good idea to broadcast these things when you are new in town and looking for employment. It's a small town.

You probably wouldn't be a beam of sunshine everyday if you had to work in some crummy restaurant watching endless backpackers take selfies with a fucking pizza day in day out for most likely less than $200 a month.simon44 wrote:Why are the staff in the so-called, happy pizza restaurants on PP riverside so fcuking miserable?

Business is way down. The owner of one of the more popular joints told me that this is by far his worst year ever. The new tourists and expats are very different from the old. And so many of the old expats have moved on, one way or another.

Maybe that's because the US embassy staff are now banned from eating happy pizza.chkwoot wrote:Business is way down. The owner of one of the more popular joints told me that this is by far his worst year ever.

That explains it. They won't survive much longer. Maybe Mike's should add delivery and happy. Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Last time I stopped, about 2 week ago, there was no happy to be had

I am not looking to work in a pizza joint, thanks very much
I am passing through Cambodia. If there is a decent teaching job, then I'll stay. If not (and that looks to be the case), then I will accept the job offer from Myanmar, Laos, China (lots of offers) or Vietnam (idem China).
Last time that I visited PP was about 10 years ago, and it was a dusty shithole. The dust seems less (sealed roads?), but I don't see much improvement otherwise

...and if it's Happy Herbs...have to look at the three stooges of the apocalypse perpetually parked at a table out front and doubly so if the head-stooge brings his mangy mutt along.Captain Bonez wrote: You probably wouldn't be a beam of sunshine everyday if you had to work in some crummy restaurant
