Hi,
So I'm flying into Cambodia in just a little over a week. Either going to fly into Phnom Penh then buy a motorbike and ride to Siem Reap, or fly into Siem Reap then ride to Phnom Penh. I haven't decided yet, the police in China have my passport changing my residency permit into an exit visa, so I haven't been able to book the ticket yet.
I guess I have 2 questions. Which city am I most likely to find a half decent job just walking into schools, PP or SR? So I can fly into the other one. I'm far more interested in a nice relaxed job and relaxed place to live than the highest paying one.
My second question more pertinent to this forum section though is does anyone have any recommendations on short term accommodation? I don't want to rush into renting an apartment until I've secured a job and know which city I'll be settling in. And also I want to ride up to Battambang and look for work first too, I've heard nothing but good things about that place. I'm just looking for somewhere cheap I can rent on a daily or even weekly basis and leave my bags while I ride around looking for a job. I don't care about the quality(can't think of a better word at the moment) of the place. Don't care if it's shared rooms, not super clean and doesn't have comfortable beds etc. All I care about is they have somewhere safe for me to store my things that won't get stolen, wifi, and a bed. I won't spend much time in the room I just don't want to haul my luggage around on a motorbike.
Cambodia - Where to stay short term?
There are dozens of guesthouses that will rent rooms on a short term basis, Gary. You will have no problems at all. If i were you, I'd decide first which city you're looking in and then head to either Pub Street if SR or Street 172 if PNH and just walk up and down looking for a room. Most will be in the $10-$20 a night range with no need to commit to any minimum time.
Email the guys at Sundance (see ad). They will sort something out for you. They have two hotels.

Many thanks
if your happy with a shared room $3 around corner of 172 and 19. clean and secure, or $7 for a single room
Hello guesthouse st136 in Phnom penh. Just after corner st19 if heading towards the river.
7$ for one big bed, 8$ for 2 big beds together like a huge one. With fan. Ac 12$.
Khmer standard but he recently repainted the rooms so it looks ok. Small tv. Wifi that i have "clocked" 6mbit as highest. Get a windowed room. I think id pass it if they dont have one as the air wont be too fresh in a small room with just a few holes in the wall to the corridor.
