Regardless of what your opinion may be, Bubble T is right. Men are 4 times more likely to die from suicide and women are 3 times more likely to try and fail.

Statistically, that is quite interesting. Men fail at suicide a lot less. Probably because they pick fail safe ways of doing it like shooting their brains out. To me, as an amateur on the topic, it sounds like women's failed attempts are set up to fail as a way to seek attention. If that is the case, and we will probably never know, then it's no wonder that women (not all, see violet for example) in general don't care. Statistically it sounds, to me, like women's failed suicide attempts are cries for attention more than anything else.

It is not normal for men to share their personal problems with their peers. They, as a group, suffer silently. I think because of, and don't accuse me of being a SJW here, gender roles. Women bring gender roles up all the time. Society is unequal and they don't get treated well. The catch is that women are by default victimized and their issues are taken seriously compared to men's issues. Women are belittled, poor them, and it has a price. But a big benefit, the way I see it, is that they always have somebody to talk to. A man with problems loses an important part of his identity when he admits to weakness: masculinity.

Gender roles go both ways. I don't recall any feminist movement talking about it ever. I find that ironic, because they claim to be against gender roles. They are not. They want women to be victimized because that's why they are taken seriously and men are not. They just want to be seen as men when it fits them. For example they want the same salary as men but without losing the ability to take months or in some countries years off as parental leave.

I don't know what we can do about it, if anything at all.

I think, without being taught (nurture), men just feel like they shouldn't be emotional or talk about our problems because in our minds it will be perceived by females to be a weakness. Female isn't going to mate with the guy with a bunch of self-admitted emotional problems ( or maybe she would, but we don't think so).

I found this ironic considering the reason the topic came up is that Bubble T was bemoaning the population (and in particular women) not taking men's issues seriously, and a number of other posters had commented that males in general tend to dismiss their own issues.... yet, here was a female (me) commenting in a serious matter about the topic, only for a male member (you .. .I'm assuming you are a male... I lose track sometimes) to appear (to me) to be about to be flippant, and thereby supporting a few poster's comments that men make it difficult to take male issues seriously.

And I'm not having a woman (assuming that's biologically what you are) preach to me about men's issues and how I (a man) should or should not act or think.

A local I knew did just that about a month back. He'd done some work with me over the years, building awnings. fabricating those cantilevered doors etc. Always seemed like a solid enough guy who was doing ok. Apparently he had an overbearing mother. Blew his own brains out with a handgun. I couldn't get any decent answers when I inquired about why he would have a gun or where he got it from. It is what it is. RIP.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that genetic programming, it is societies that are fucked for trying to undo millions of years of evolution in a generation.

... what role does this accelerated undoing of evolution in a generation play in the incidence of suicide in the male population? rhetorical question, as we don't have the data to compare. However, observing how forcing a way of life and trying to undo evolution in a generation or two impacts on native americans and the australian aboriginal community, I'd say it plays a big role. Loss of/confusion about identity on the whole is a major contributing factor in depression and suicide (and suicide attempts).

a note on the comments about women being more likely to attempt and fail and it being a cry for help... yeah, I agree it is a cry for help... for some reason, women communicate passively rather than asking outright. I imagine there is some societal teaching at play there.
