Sorry was getting a bit carried away there... early morning class etc.. all good
Yes, my comment about visas was to do with work permits/ back payment. The schools are liable by law to pay them. Not sure, but I think I have heard that PUC pay the fees? So, I'm guessing it would go against someone that didn't already have a work permit (they are really issued per place of employment etc ).
Also, I apologize for my comment about work experience to that poster. Of course, the better schools (real international schools) would care very much about experience. Can't offer any advice about them here, as my degree isn't in education and I've never even tried. I prefer to teach private.
Your a woman? They love female teachers in Cambodia as they can't often get any. Just type international schools in Phnom Penh. They all would require a demo lesson as I said before, that's where the shit schools get all there ideas about fur coats from.
EDIT sorry don't type international schools in PP , there are too many shit schools among them. They just use the name, no-one cares out here as they are normally run by government cronies.
ACE, Northbridge, CIA? and a few others are the better ones.
Which Schools ask for a Demo Lesson Plan?

Yeah yesterday a Kiwi chick posted something on the Phnom Penh Expats page about her plan to move to Cambodia and start teaching and someone from ACE responded on the thread right away and wanted to get in touch with her.Abou-Gor wrote: Your a woman? If you're a young, Caucasian, breathing female you will find a position. Period. They might ask for a demo class, but it will be a formality; you've got the job. non-NES? No experience? No degree? NO PROBLEM!
Sound jaded, don't I? I am. I have every reason to be.

What does that even mean?Abou-Gor wrote: Your a woman?
How come you can't understand that "your" indicates possession, and "you're" is a contraction of "you are" - which means to be? It's pathetic that you can't figure that out. Do you teach your students to say "I would of been"? Do you even understand that "too" and "to" have completely different meanings?
Anyway, back to the OP, of course any decent school should ask for a demonstration or mock lesson. Many people have the right credentials, but can't teach, whether through lack of people skills or experience. It's all about delivery and engaging, and whether these are effective or not needs to be checked.

Hello. Yes, I taught adults and teenagers for approximately one year. The classes I taught were at various levels of English competency. I have been working in a different field for the past couple of years but would like to do some teaching again.salvajeuno wrote:Just curious, do you have teaching experience?tVCB wrote:I am going to approach some schools in Phnom Penh in the next few days. I am female and I have a CELTA and a degree.
My preference is to try to get work at schools that will ask for me to prepare a demonstration lesson. If any readers know of schools that definitely ask for a demonstration lesson before hiring, would you please reply with some information (adding the details of what street the school is on too if you know).
Thank you in advance.
The comment about visas. Is that referring to people being made to back pay taxes and work permit fines?

We now breathlessly await the lady, the heroine of our tale, telling us where she went, what was said to her, and what offers she got.
