Just a small room in the countryside.
My plan to survive the ceremony was to build a small room near the site, have it equipped with aircon - to survive the heat and humidity, western toilet - to avoid the traditional outhouse, and a shower - to wash off the never ending sweat, dust, and mud. What could happen with such a simple idea?
Wrong. The in-laws seem to have bigger ideas. Ceremony will be at the in-laws as per custom. Initial plan was build underneath the existing Khmer house. So the house was raised an extra 3 meters, with plans to pour a new concrete foundation. New plan is to build the room next to the existing structure, build walls on the bottom floor - in essence a second house, with the room being accessible from the new house and acting as a back wall.
Also the small room has morphed into a giant room, about half the size of the house original house, with the above plus kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and yet undreamed of other things.
Hope there won't be any further surprises.

Ceremony for what newkidontheblock?
I know I'm unloveable. You don't have to tell me. I don't have much in my life, but take it - it's yours.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Wedding ceremony I presume, which lasts all of 2.5 days. Newkid must be some special kind of soft. This Charming Man wrote:Ceremony for what newkidontheblock?
Will there be there a sick buffalo wing in the new house extension?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I live in an air-conditioned world, relatively germ free world. Aircon home, work, transport, etc. Food is inspected, drinkable water comes from the faucet, the toilets flush. Spent a day over there to be familiar with what I would be getting into. My eyes (and other parts) got opened wide, real wide. But doing this will give her face in the village.epidemiks wrote:Wedding ceremony I presume, which lasts all of 2.5 days. Family home has no buffalo. Chickens, rooster, ducks, ducklings, dogs, puppies.
Don't worry, be happy.
I'm confused.
Are you saying that you are going to Cambodia to marry this superhuman girl, but that while you are there you will insult her family by building a separate place for you to live, sleep and shit in for the 2-3 days you are there, complete with aircon?
Isnt that what they did for the Crown Princess of Thailand recently?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but ....

At least the in-laws get a new level added to their home. Nothing going to waste.

Am I the lion or the zebra?
Should I run, or turn and charge?

Lesson learned. Girl had to go with her friend because her father just died. Just happened to be invited to a wedding the next day. Since it's all popcorn time, might as well spit out the stuff that bugged me. I would've accepted if she had multiple men, as long as she told me. (There was no increase in living standards, so I doubt this.). But it was that she just wanted to stay home and not do anything - just watch TV, watch others play cards, etc. all day long. That and the fact she doesn't want to share her thoughts with me, didn't want to say what others were saying. She told me that she didn't want to gossip and say bad about anyone. She refused to change her way of life when I visited. In my eyes, basic respect.
From now on, I think it's better to forget about love. The heartache is pretty bad. No more love for me. Just pay for the girl's time. At least I know exactly what I'll be getting, and she knows exactly what she's getting. Different girl every night from now on.
That is, if I ever have the good fortune to return to Cambodia.

I forget about those. Om March 21, 2014, he posted this:
27 days later, on April 17, 2014, he announced on Facebook as "Pdey Barang" that he and the nurse were "married," and started calling her "prapon" and writing "always miss" and various lovey-dovey messages.newkidontheblock wrote: From now on, I stick to buying a slice of the girl's time. The relationship is simple and straightforward. I know exactly where she stands, and she knows exactly where I stand. For that slice of time, the girl will love to be with me, but never love me. No confusion, no heartache. No hang ups to deal with, no being strung along, no lies or deceit. No getting screwed over. Plus, if there are issues, it's a simple matter of buying a slice of time from a different girl.
