Pepper plantation in Kep
Pepper plantation in Kep
In 2007 I bought some land in Kep with a friend from home without any plans for what to do with it. A few years later we started importing Kampot Pepper for sale in our home country. In 2012 we came up with the idea to turn the land into a pepperplantation. I have put together som pictures to show the development from 2007 until today. I hope some of you will enjoy it.
First encounter
First thing we did was to build a wall, approximately 400 meters
In 2012 we started the ground work for the plantation
The soil from the pond was used to level the land
Next up was the watertower
First field with Kampot Pepper, 700 poles (September 2012)
Preparation for the second field, 1200 poles (July 2014)
Second field
Ground work for the shop
The shop with a small appartment and kitchen
This is how it looks today, January 2017
At the back
The kids are allright
From the air

I'm impressed, well done. That staircase is great.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Congrats, it looks better than good and the tidiness is remarkable.
I concur about the stairway being a piece of art.

A fantastic transformation and I have to agree with others, that is a awesome stairway, fit for heaven
Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.

That's an amazing transformation. Well done OP.
How long does it take for a pepper crop to mature on a greenfield site like this?

All those brown thingies suspended midair part of a drip-feed hydroponic setup? And if that is the case, what is the purpose of the buried blue pipes?
It obviously looks great. Hope that the pepper is coming along nicely too.
Please explain how Kampot pepper can be grown in Kep. I always thought Kampot pepper is pepper from Kampot.

That was such an interesting question so I had to look it up. It seems that Kampot pepper can also come from Kep since Kep Province was part of Kampot province until 2008.Alexandra wrote:Please explain how Kampot pepper can be grown in Kep.
EU have this Geographical Indication thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_indication . Cambodia just recently had their pepper added to that http://www.intracen.org/blog/Cambodias- ... ndication/. I guess Cambodia made sure to make the geographical area as big as possible, to make more money, using the aforementioned historical reason.

Beautiful, impressive and such a refreshing post. I particularly enjoyed your attention to detail and design. From using the soil from the pond to level the field to your forethought on the irrigation system. The house is a wonderful example of the use of light and space. Simple, elegant and functional. Projects like this really enhance life in Cambodia. Yes... really great job Euroboy!Euroboy wrote:In 2007 I bought some land in Kep with a friend from home without any plans for what to do with it.
