Slow change scam from airport immigration officers
For the second time in about a year, the following recently occurred:
1. I land at Phnom Penh airport and fill out application for tourist visa, which costs $30.
2. Officers put tourist visa in passport, I hand over $50 and await change.
3. Officer puts $10 and $5 bill on counter and sort of waits to see if I'll leave. I stand there waiting for the rest.
4. Officer slowly puts $5 more on counter. I take it and leave.
II wonder how much they are making off this scam.

Last time I came through the officer says "Something for me?'" so quietly i couldn't hear him. He asks again, this time louder. I hear him this time but feign deafness. Once again he asks "Something for me?" even louder. I say loudly "What?". The officer angrily waves me on.

GM,
You often complain about running out of pages, renewing passports, etc. If you're just entering on a tourist visa, why don't you just get an e-visa beforehand? I understand it is $7 more, but it saves you a passport page, and time at the airport.

It's $7 more, you have to print it out, the time saving is minimal, and I have two passports now, one passport for all the Thai and Cambodia pervert stamps and one passport for the cool globetrotting terrorist sympathizer stamps.

Ha, I once had the brilliant idea of using a second passport to double my fun during the time of the '90 days in 6 months' visa exemption rule in Thailand. I legally obtained a Canadian passport and figured I would alternate between using it and my US passport so that I could spend more time in the land of smiles. Unfortunately, I got busted the first time I used the CDN passport when the friendly immigration dude at Suvarnabhumi swiped it through his machine. Apparently the '90 days in 6 months' rule was per person, not per passport.gavinmac wrote: I have two passports now
Quick, somebody quote this post before that asshole playboy deletes another masterpiece for no apparent reason. Thank you.

They've been trying the exact same scam last time I entered. The guy gave me $60 change in $10 bills on a $100 note. Then reluctantly pulled a 7th note when I counted my change and hold my ground.
They've modernized the arrival hall but have been sticking to the same ridiculous procedure where passports of arriving tourists disappear for a few minutes before your first name is called by the scammer at the end of the line.
It also enables them to pull the id pic scam, they now charge $3 for a copy of your passport if you forget to bring a pic.
Add the tuktuk scam. A couple years ago you got a car downtown when you wanted to book a ride at the airport exit booth. Now the $7 (?) gives you a tuktuk.

There is another kind of scam from the Tuktuk boys.
Apparently the 7$ is for one stop only. Even if the first stop is on the way to the second stop.
I told them the furthest destination and he agreed the price - there was 2 of us and my friends house was on the way to mine.
When we stopped to let him out the driver said to me 'now I go back or you pay me $7 more'.
I told him 'now you go to my house as you agreed or I pay you nothing'
There was a bit of an angry impasse until I told him I would call the company to complain.

That's not a scam, that's how fixed rate taxis work everywhere in the world.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:There is another kind of scam from the Tuktuk boys.

Discussed many times, it's not an issue, and can be justified for several reasons. For instance, if he wants to go to India he needs to send his passport in, wait a month and get it back. But he may need to travel in that month. The second passport has a shorter validity.violet wrote:'gavinmac wrote:It's $7 more, you have to print it out, the time saving is minimal, and I have two passports now, one passport for all the Thai and Cambodia pervert stamps and one passport for the cool globetrotting terrorist sympathizer stamps.
