I don't understand why PP expats refer to Sihanoukville as Shitville. I think, maybe its because they hate the sun and beaches or they hate water cant swim or they worry about taking their shirt off . And jealous they have work in the Pig Pen. Dirty stinking shithole. I really cant understand how expats manage that. Earning 100k/pa maybe.
If they had the opportunity to be able to do what they work in PP, many would move the coast. I'd bet on that.

Also just a bump for an old mates site . Nothing referring to my rant.

If I can recall a post of mine 14 years ago.

SV was reported as being the pits,
I went there to look at a business to purchase, knowing all the negatives I walked away because they were true.

SV now offers many more options.

I'd be quite happy to relocate there,
Schools are not on par with PP - but they are good.
Land prices outside of SV have increased, Lucky for you if you purchased land some time ago.

Customer base is still not as strong as PP,
But if you manage your expenses you can survive and make a profit that covers the lean months.

It has several beaches - two of which are safe to swim in.
It's also several degrees cooler than PP.

Whats not to like about the place ?

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

People say its full of dodgy expats, mafia etc, but really..people don't/wont be annoyed by them.
PP has them, My town has them. I't's worldwide every town/city. Sihanoukville has, amongst other baddie's Rebel MC.
Most friendly chaps imo. Sure they might be doing dodgy biso, but ,like the others,Russian mafia etc, they don't make problems for the average joe(jep) tourist.

Any crime in SHV and you'll get people saying the "Mafia" are involved bollocks. Tuk Tuk Mafia, Beach Trinket Mafia, Russian Mafia, Turkish Mafia, Food Cart Mafia, Motodop Mafia, Fish Mafia, Port Mafia etc etc.

There's lots of nice beaches. The ones that are not are Ocheteal, until you get up past Khin Shack. They are all controlled by the Polluted Beach Mafia.

The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

The young well spoken trinket selling boys who will tell you the capital city and PM name of your country. Then demand you play their crossword game are the worst Mafia.Smart little dude's who, when I rolled out a World Map I brought off a legless army seller, couldn't point out Cambodia on the map.

I can more or less live where I want and for the last 21 years I chose Phnom Penh. I dont bad mouth Sihonoukville. I don't live there because it lacks the amenities I want. Apart from "backpackers" who are probably living in sub standard parts of the city and street beggars, I cant see why anyone would describe Phnom Penh as a "Dirty stinking shithole" There are excellent choices of accommodation and a great choice of wine bars clubs, restaurants, and delicatessens to name but a few . I live over on Chroy Changvar, which is a fairly nice environment. My condo is on the banks of the Mekong and has a nice outdoor "lunch spot" where I can watch the river.

Chroy changvar has a selection of great accomodation.

And Phnom Penh has plenty of good evening venues.

The only downside for me is the increasingly bad traffic.

Jep is obsessed with asking why people look down on Sihanoukville and its expats; he created a topic on this exact subject nine months ago (and also apologized for posting that one in the wrong forum too):

http://www.khmer440.com/chat_forum/view ... 84#p786266

This is what happens when you have website that caters to about two dozen posters, you get a lot of repeat conversations.

Very flash. Meo Den do you rent or own the condo? Do you work or cashed up retired.
The lunch area without chairs and a table puts me off. I hate sitting on the floor eating.
Is there a dining table in the condo?

I'd bet your abode is the best, far better than any member here. Well done Sir.
