Civil war? Doubtful. Iron man has the guns, tanks, money and the whole government. The other side? Nothing. Pol pot would would have never occurred without outside countries arming the Khmer Rouge and the king's support. Who's gonna arm the opposition? No one. Will the current king defect from iron man's embrace? Not a chance.
Don't worry, be happy.

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

when i ask my students which are the best and the worst countries in the world - they often say Cambodia as being the worst. i don't argue with them much. i often say that some countries in Africa are worse, but they don't change their answer.
im guessing you've never seen a huge building torn to pieces by a livid mob of 2000 people using nothing much but their bare hands - didn't take too long either - about a day iirc.. they have a bit of Indian blood in them here.newkidontheblock wrote:Civil war? I hope that wasn't an interpretation of my quote.newkidontheblock wrote:Civil war? Doubtful. Iron man has the guns, tanks, money and the whole government. The other side? Nothing. Pol Pot was able to harness a deep seeded disdain among the impoverished, the level of inequality, injustice & impunity that the sociopath elite can operate within has allowed that resentment to fester again. Until someone can come along & offer a glimmer of hope for a better future the status quo will remain, the last flicker of light was shone from a torch held by Kem Ley, from what i have been told the others just want their turn of milking the cow.

Please provide instances and examples of where foreign resentment is flourishing or expressing itself. Where are the riots against foreign businesses? Where are the demonstrations against foreign investment. You are the one making these claims. Back them up.
Catch up! If Cambodia was given a 100 year start they would never touch them. Think small. Catch up in your own country first. Take care of your own brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers before dreaming big.phat kunthea wrote:I have done informal sits elfrveys since the last year up to now with people I know from motodops to police to the military, out of those roughly 50 only 1 longed for the status quo.
The social media plays a powerful impact on people's views across Cambodia on how they view politics and the suppression they or their family directly experienced in the last 2-3 decades. Most younger generations are anti current ruling party and some are very hardcore LDP party -- frankly I like Khem Veasna and indirectly support him.
Cambodia's natural resources are already butted fuck and can't think much of what Cambodia's major export other than rice and labors too if that count. I suspect the encouragement of direct foreign investments help to provide some people temporarily adequate livelihood and stay happy and enrich the rich. For now.
Hun Manet seems like a likable person, even he might has the Cambodia's interest at heart when he takes the throne people still hold deep hatred and vengeance against his dad, the family tree, that also includes his cronies. Even that aside, Cambodia has to come up with some very innovative to catch up with their neighboring countries in the future ahead.
Unlike the past generations, this generation is hard to tame if the man continues to control the country with an iron fist and allowed his cronies to act with impunity. When push comes to shove a civil war will happen. But that is just my thinking.
Master that, and the rest will take care of itself.

For those interested in becoming an International Election Monitor please see the Cambodian NEC forms here:
https://www.necelect.org.kh/khmer/node/1654
It will be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to satisfy all of these requirements which appear designed to exclude anyone not approved by the NEC mates in the ruling party.

The only person i know that could meet the half-man half-pig requirement is Lucky 'man' Lucan - but he's more interested in supplying the NEC with erasable Biros. He's been buying one each week to donate for the last 4 years.Ot Mean Loi wrote:For those interested in becoming an International Election Monitor please see the Cambodian NEC forms here:

The NEC announced yesterday that opinion polls will be banned for a month ahead of June's elections. This comes after a recent poll put the CNRP miles ahead in a survey condemned by the CPP.
Sounds to me like those independent observers are going to be busy.

I wish you'd stop polluting so many threads with your idiotic vitriol. You're as bad as all those overseas Khmers who clog up every comment section with rants about puppets etc, while having no idea about current affairs or developments. You're actually doing your side a disservice by coming across as so utterly clueless, and never being able to give a valid response when are pulled up on it. Editing previous posts or backtracking/ diverging don't wear it either. Your ad-hominem attacks are getting really boring - especially because you really don't know what you are talking about.Abou-Gor wrote:The only person i know that could meet the half-man half-pig requirement is Lucky 'man' Lucan - but he's more interested in supplying the NEC with erasable Biros.
