How is the government to blame for a guy speeding down the wrong side of the road and crushing people? It would have taken all of 5 seconds for him to do it after the first accident. Was a policeman meant to appear in that window and shoot him between the hit and the run?Abou-Gor wrote:Just another day in the KOW. Another crazy incident to add to the long, long list.
the guy was a chancer - like so many people out here. he shouldn't have been driving on the wrong side of the road and that makes a lot of locals angry in the first place. Because, as we have seen in this case, they cause accidents.
the driver caused an accident and the Khmer - nuclear explosion of panic occurred - and he gunned it down the road, unfortunately in the same direction.
as is usual in Cambodia, it's the government to blame yet again for abysmal management of road enforcement, worrying more about greed and hanging on to power than the health of its own citizens.
Final thought ; I hope none of that anger gets directed towards foreigners around the next election.
Maybe foreigners should stop trying to get on their high horse about the government in totally irrelevant situations if they don't want to be targeted.
The rumor on facearse is that the driver of the car has succumbed to his injuries

There needs to be compulsory accident/3rd party insurance, and this would have to be subsidised, many people cannot afford it.
This guy was running because he wanted to avoid paying for the damages he caused to the car he hit first.
So the one issue is economics.
The second issue is total disregard for others. This is the worst manifestation, but it's evident everywhere, crappy parking at markets, loud street weddings and funerals, dropping litter everywhere, exploitation of natural resources, the list is long.
The third issue is that people are taught that whatever happens, it can usually be fixed if one has enough money...but I doubt that applies in this case, what was he driving? A Camry, I think.
Not the normal spoilt-brat SUV hearse.

Interesting how they throw money on the ground at the dead people. Ive never really noticed that before. Why do they do that?
The problem with the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
Because traffic rules are not enforced anywhere and a driving license can be obtained without any knowledge of traffic law and / or driving experience - and these two are responsibilities of the government.testytesty wrote:How is the government to blame for a guy speeding down the wrong side of the road and crushing people? One has to wonder why SCC is obsessed with this idea that foreigners(other than Vietnamese) are going to be targeted during the election. Is he longing for that older more dangerous Cambodia, only a few of us ever experienced? Could he be right, is every pineapple seller really just waiting for the signal to turn on the barangs who quibble over price? Is the commune chief I exchange pleasantries with each morning, secretly planning to lead a mob in attacking my home?

SCC is obsessed by many khmer related issues, not many of which make sense to anyone else but himself.
Every time I walk out of my door people smile and are nice to me. At traffic lights I swap wry nods with others.
And I'm a cunt. Fuck knows where SCC has his constant negative experiences.
Edit. There was a tuk tuk driver who said he was going to do me harm for paying him a dollar for a certain trip. Yesterday I saw him again and got a bit scared. I made a boxing motion in the air, with a smile, and offered him a dollar for the same trip. He laughed and agreed. At the other end i gave him a dollar and a half.
The kids are all right.

Maybe it's that 'Asian smile', but under the surface..... Totally different feelings. BEWARE!RobW wrote:Every time I walk out of my door people smile and are nice to me. At traffic lights I swap wry nods with others.

Well, with the vigilante justice, don't some people flee an accident for fear of that alone? And then, in doing so, he causes another. Did he die?

good point, but i still think he totally panicked - only one of those okhnas kids would run over a bunch of people on purpose. The police really need to start prosecuting car and truck drivers from driving the wrong way down the street before they kill loads of people and end up in a coma. btw, what ever happened to that Ford Ranger driver that was driving the wrong way down Russian B. last week and smashed somebodies windows for beeping him. did they manage to find him yetvladimir wrote:There needs to be compulsory accident/3rd party insurance, and this would have to be subsidised, many people cannot afford it.
