DF, you raise a good point, it is not easy adjusting to retirement.
I based myself in Siem Reap for a year because I got a great rental deal and traveled around SEA from that base. It was a great time but I can't do that indefinitely. I still have to motivate with constructive activities other than falling into the bar hopping trap...as much fun as that can be.

Never mind
Hmmm. I retired at 50 with a history, and I hope a future, of the abuse of every stimulant known to mankind. It's not a very good idea, but work is a vulgar intrusion too.
As for where, the coast of Cadiz would be nice but you have to have friends. Going to some nice place without knowing anyone could get pretty dull.

51 and in my second year of official retirement in Pattaya now that I qualify for that visa. It suits me, all my long term friends of over 20 years are here and I made a decision to work to retire here after my first visit all those years ago. I travel around the country every couple of weeks following the local Premier League team and usually make a long weekend of it in the further away places like Buriram, Chiang Rai, Korat. Nice to go back every year and renew acquantancies. Day trips or overnight stays to Bangkok are a minute walk round the corner to catch the hourly airport bus, Jomtien beach on my doorstep. Staying in a place with all the amenities and activity, with the ease of visiting other quieter more sedate places if it becomes too much works for me rather than vice versa.
Vietnam is a place I'd still like to explore in the region.

Forgive me but I believe you are from Grantown on Spey and all your friends ended up in Pattaya?rl66 wrote:51 and in my second year of official retirement in Pattaya now that I qualify for that visa. It suits me, all my long term friends of over 20 years are here
Is it the golf connection?
I only went once, just for a night. Is there more to it than the screaming slatterns and Chang singlet wearing gentlemen?
The big wank fest of course. Brojobs in the steam sauna and wet towel spanking.RobW wrote:Is there more to it than the screaming slatterns and Chang singlet wearing gentlemen?

Edinburgh, Kilbarchan, Grantown, never lived more than 5 years anywhere in the U.K. in 30, lowland, highland, sassenach and then when you stumble across a place where you meet guys from all countries who are similarly transient with a common interest, the perfect resting place.RobW wrote:Forgive me but I believe you are from Grantown on Spey and all your friends ended up in Pattaya?rl66 wrote:51 and in my second year of official retirement in Pattaya now that I qualify for that visa. " is there more to it than the screaming slatterns and Chang singlet wearing gentlemen " I like the fact there is a Ugandan quarter to indulge my peccadillos when the need arises.
I might pop over to give Alexandra a slap next week rather than get wet.
Bliss.

The Philippines (can't think of anywhere else right now). Port Barton was great, but I'll wait until the road is done up nicely, and there is 24 hour electricity and internet.
However I'm 39, so I have another 11-15 years of 'work hard-work smart' ahead of me before I think about giving up full-time work.
I'm stuck in China, making good coin, but I hate this country and its filthy people.

More guns, more robberies, more crime, more fried rice, more fried chicken, deep fried spam and a lunatic president. Marvelous.
As far as can see the only major difference between the Philly's and the KOW is the big boobies they have over there.

Naw man . You just weren't there when RiceCakes was living there . It was literally the best place on earth . If you're smart, you'd go up to Northern Vietnam before RiceCakes moves on to the future best place in the world .spitthedog wrote:The Philippines?? Pfft

Anyone who doesn't like Capitalism is a pathetic loser. God bless the USA and no place else.
