I thought of Joon when I read this
"I looked at my daughter, who sort of rolled her eyes at me. And the woman went on, listing the many ways that girls could rebuff boys. I looked at my daughter again, and she said, “go ahead mom.” And I did. I raised my hand and said, “Can we also talk about how to teach girls to say ‘yes’ to sexuality. Can we teach them that sex is about pleasure for all parties involved, and that learning how to identify and say ‘yes’ to things that give them pleasure is how they learn to draw their boundaries and say ‘no’ to things that don’t.”

I don't divide my online from my non online. It's all real. Or perhaps none of it is real.
Also, i was reading it online. Therefore, according to your real vs non-real, I believe i was in the non-real realm.

I'm sure Joon will be flattered.

my OP was in no way meant to flatter or to disflatter (whatever the opposite of flatter is) Joon or anyone. I just wrote the truth. I could have taken a fraction of a second longer to think of something else to say instead, or I could have just said nothing and posted the quote and the link.
It really wasn't that important that Joon came to mind and yet you have done a good job of focussing attention on it.
Well done.
what can I say, Joon has been the most vocal female in my bubble to speak about women enjoying sex. shrug.

I was flattered that you thought of me and suggested USD150 would get me out of bed in that other thread.Londo wrote:I'm sure Joon will be flattered.
As for the OP, that was an interesting read, thanks for sharing.
I thought of you In direct response to someone on here looking for a translator, and although I'm sure you're a swell gal, you (or anyone else on K40 for that matter) wouldn't cross my mind when I'm reading an article, walking down the road or doing anything else in my life. Not that thinking of someone you interact with on an expat forum outside of online discourse is incomprehensible, but personally, anonymous people who I might engage with on the internet just don't have any impact on me outside of time spent in that medium. I guess I have other things that occupy my mind.Joon wrote:I was flattered that you thought of me and suggested USD150 would get me out of bed in that other thread.Londo wrote:I'm sure Joon will be flattered.

despite the obvious dig in your reply, I'll comment.Londo wrote:I thought of you In direct response to someone on here looking for a translator, and although I'm sure you're a swell gal, you (or anyone else on K40 for that matter) wouldn't cross my mind when I'm reading an article, walking down the road or doing anything else in my life. i understand your viewpoint, however, you are of a different generation. Nowadays, online activity IS as real as non online activity. Engaging with people that a person has not met face to face IS as real as engaging with someone face to face. In fact, youngsters today engage with each other in more depth via a gadget than they do face to face. Times have changed, Londo.
further to the above and crossing a little into the territory of another active thread on here, I found this interesting

Do you think because a lot of people don't consider the internet to be real or a real place, they care less about its well-being?
Well, one thing is, we have been growing up with an understanding of the importance of things like a telephone line or television. So if we would start to treat our telephone lines or TV channels like we treat the internet, people would get really upset. If someone would tell you, you can't call a friend, you would understand then that this is a very bad thing that is happening. You understand your rights. But people don't have that with the internet. If someone would tell you, you can't use Skype for that and that, you don't get the feeling it's about you personally. Just by being a virtual thing, it's suddenly not directed at you. You don't see someone spying on you, you don't see something censored, you don't see it when someone deletes stuff out of the search results out of Google. I think that's the biggest problem to get people's attention. You don't see the problems, so people don't feel connected to it.
For me, it's simple.Picardy wrote:further to the above and crossing a little into the territory of another active thread on here, I found this interesting

I think of a global apocalypse scenario.
It will wipe everything that is superfluous and not necessary and it will just leave people with their morals, principles and values. So that's what humanity should focus on and get right.
I agree. We need to keep in mind that morals, principles and values are not a one single truth across the planet though. I genuinely feel humanity is not capable of aligning as a species any time soon.Joon wrote:For me, it's simple.Picardy wrote:...

And, as has already been stated in other threads and elsewhere, when the apocalypse happens, human morals, principles and values will be among the first things to shatter. This doesn't mean we should give up on attempting to 'get them right', it's just that I think it is naive to believe that 'good' will prevail in a catastrophe. Good is a 'better' choice for the soul, but might not be the 'best' choice for survival, and survival is a main driver in life.
