Internet Speed
I'll be coming back to PP in October. Can anyone please let me know of a fast, reliable Internet provider? Cheers!
Thanks for the info. I forgot all about the power outages. I'll be living somewhere in the Duan Penh (downtown area) again. I'm not concerned about price. I need a fast, reliable connection because I depend on the Net for my livelihood. The company I work for will test my speed before scheduling any jobs for me to do. For this reason alone, I need to have the best ISP. Thanks again. Cheers!
if money is no concern: https://www.ezecom.com.kh/ourservices
Have been here for a year now. Never had any outage whatsoever. as long as their is electricity there is internet (Sangkat Tonle Bassac).

I don't think there are so many anymore, or if there are I rarely get them in my neighborhood.Orkuncha wrote:Thanks for the info. I forgot all about the power outages.

I live in Duan Penh, and have had more brown/blackouts this year than in the past few years combined. I think it's because of all the new traffic lights being installed, all the construction going on, and the unhappy ghosts. Also it seems that maybe they're starting to play with the idea of burying the cables.
If you need 100% connectivity 100% of the time, then don't come to Cambodia. Or, get a UPS, voltage stabilizer, generator, and a couple of jerry cans of fuel. Having multiple ISPs would probably also be important. Even Ezecom goes down sometimes. dv8inpp has posted some useful info.

if his company has enough money, I am sure they can pay for a serviced apartment that comes with backup power supply. another good thing here is that 4g internet literally costs nothing (I pay 1 dollar for 5gb of data). In case of a power outage he can setup his phone as hotspot and work from his laptop until the power is back.chkwoot wrote:I live in Duan Penh, and have had more brown/blackouts this year than in the past few years combined. In my last apartment they had a generator which kicked in automatically when there was a power cut. However the internet didn't work during the EDC outage.
I presume the major internet providers have electricity backups but they must rely on some local electricity also.
I don't know much about internet provider infrastructure but I guess it isn't sufficient to say that if you have a generator then you'll be ok.

4G is faster than a lot of the shitty "broadband" connections of digi, opennet and so on. I also said it is for emergencies.chkwoot wrote:He said fast. 4g isn't fast. Hotspot is even slower.
Serviced apartments are not 100% reliable in Cambodia.
what do you mean by "reliable"? I can of course only speak about my own experience but we never had any outage for more than a few seconds during the last year. The power goes out, the backup takes over and whenever the power comes back the power switches back to the normal supply. So basically your connection drops for a few seconds whenever the power supply changes and that is it. And just so the op knows how often his happens. We are talking about half a dozen outages per month (max) that last a couple of minutes on average. I have not lived in too many places but my best guess is that the number and duration of outages increases the further away you live from Independence Monument/BKK1/RoyalPalace/Nagaworld.
Ezecom does work when the power is out and the backup is running. At least in this area. I guess it is best to call them and ask about this beforehand.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:In my last apartment they had a generator which kicked in automatically when there was a power cut. Of course. Where is the modem though...chkwoot wrote:Modems need power.
If it's on my property and my backup generator is running then it should be ok. I thought the router was a modem-router combined.
Is there something else apart from this which needs lecky?
