Yes they can . Maybe newer ones cant . But my five year old one did . It did most things an iphone can do , apart from the phone bit .

Oh you're right, my mistake I used to have one with wifi I think. I just don't know if your post is about problems with an ipod touch or an android.

I will attempt to clarify : I cant access my emails on my android smartphone . The email address was switched from my ipod touch two years ago . Still using the cloud ...me.com. This morning my android mobile asked me for my password saying it had changed , not by me it wasnt . On my laptop i changed my apple password . But my mobile still keeps telling me wrong password ....I have now deleted the ....me.com email . Attempted to create a new account and it still wont connect . Getting a pop up saying `cant connect to server `... everything else on the smartphone seems normal. Its just emails ??
Admit nothing . Blame everyone . Be bitter .

.me was discontinued by apple a long time ago. E-mails were sent out warning of this and to transfer to iCloud.

.mac was first, then it was .me and now iCloud. You can still use all the emails. *@mac.com / *@me.com / *@icloud.com Also the email with either of the three extensions will log you in to email. Doesn't matter.
Now the imap/smtp has changed and the old ones won't work but that's been changed so long ago it wouldn't have been anything recent.
Well I get my outlook keeps asking me for my apple password and no matter how many times I entered it keeps asking me. All the times this has happened it has been from a poor internet connection and nothing wrong with my account.
Also another option is if you have another device or app that can/does check your apple account and you don't update that password, it'll keep trying the wrong password that will result in your account being locked again and having to answer your security questions or changing your password.
