Would you go to Pattaya?
Would you go to Pattaya, yes or no and why, why not?
I am returning to the real world for a while with some real world responsibilities and decided to take a week in-between to just relax and get my head together. My flight departs out of Bangkok, but I can leave Cambodia a week earlier if I wish. I have been to BKK, but only briefly and to the usual night spots. I was thinking to go to Pattaya for 3-4 nights but do not know what to expect at all, yet I am intrigued. I feel like its the place you wouldn't want to admit going to.
Interested to hear your opinions mates.

i've been there, nothing wrong with it. if you want do to the stuff you see on youtube then do it. but it's a beach. you can just swim and do family friendly stuff too.
edit: theres a big mountain close by with a buddha carved into like mount rushmore you can go see, and a touristy garden/attraction with elephants that you can go see on the same day, they run tours.

Plenty to do around there without the sex traps. Although I hear the beaches, which were never really good at all, are now absolute shit. Garbage everywhere. I wouldn't step foot in those waters at gunpoint. Usually great weather, though. Plenty of diverse places to eat, drink and hangout. Worth a few days.

I used to be one of those Pattaya haters, with my only experience having been when on tour with the Rugby team.
A few years ago, my then Thai girlfriend invited me to come along to inspect hotels (her job). We ended up staying in some very good hotels and had excellent food (some of the best Indian food I ever had was in Pattaya). Like others, I think it very much depends which part of Pattaya you go.
Agree on the beaches, I have never as much as put a toe in the water there.

Pattaya is too much of a freak show for the likes of me, but over the hill is Jomtien Beach and not so in your face as Pattaya, imo.

go; its great fun;
some fantastic deals on hotels, great seafood, Dont need spend much money, as the show is on the streets.
Pop into a few bars (love the show at "Angelwitch"
head out to Jomtien in the daytime and swim.
Take a brief trip over to the "darkside" Its not as bad, sexy or depraved as everyone likes to think it is.

I've never been and won't go unless I have to. It just doesn't sound like something I need to see.

Depends what you're looking for really. Bars, clubs, shows, and loads of women all eager to polish your nob, then, sure, go for it.
Looking for relaxation, then check out Koh Chang or any of the other small islands. Can still hit bangkok in a day to get your flight.

If I was in my twenties or thirties I'd probably do a couple of weeks for a look, but these days I like my beach time to be a quiet affair removed from the maddening crowds and the accompanying pollution they bring with them.
My preferred beach time these days resemble this.

I go there a lot, especially when commuting between Cambodia and Australia. I keep a room there and a moto. I have lots of long term friends there and also get my golf lessons there and like playing golf there. I recently had a spare week so booked a flight and hoped over there for some golf and lessons.
There is plenty of nightlife, way cheaper than BKK. good cheap local food and lots of western restaurants, most at very reasonable prices. There are also probably over 4,000 bars to do a bar crawl around.
You can sit and watch naked female mammal flesh gyrating in front of you with a $2 cold beer if you want or go to the movies, bowling, or to one great (cartoon amazone) and one decent (ramayarna) waterpark. I often take my daughter to them when I bring her over to Cambodia.
If it was not for having investments in Cambodia, lots of friends here (as my Juvenile Cost Centre AKA daughter has as well) and my Khmer Cost Centre (AKA the Girlfriend), I would spend more time there than I actually do. In fact I am spending more time there since I leased out my business and as a result got a retirement visa so I can come and go without the land border entry restrictions.

Note to self: Must be nice to morons.
Didn't want to go in the 90s still don't now. Plus my wife won't go because the Thai's stole some land of Kampuchea about 6000 years ago.

Jomtien beach was lovely in the late eighties early nineties. Bit of a concrete jungle now. You basically shouldn't go to Pattaya for the beaches or the temples.
It's all fanny and bar crawling. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
