Hey guys, thanks for the positive (and not so positive replies),
I know I've got little to no chance of winning in a Cambodian Court of Arbitration against a private Cambodian university with distinct political interests. But I'll file the paperwork and take up one of the job offers that have already come my way. Vietnam sounds interesting ... BTW, my detailed account of the whole debacle is already a 7000 word article which I will eventually publish. You're just gonna have to wait before I reveal names etc.
My employer refuses to honor our signed employment contract.

Of course, Badabing, employers have to have good intentions about making profits, but when hired consultants with legislative interests are pulling the university's strings via sham Steering Committee decrees, decisions are sometimes made for the sake of appearances or to make a political statement. Maybe my online activity indicates too much political opinion. Maybe some vile rumour has been spread about my sexuality and believed. Maybe my boss, a loud-mouthed but well-intentioned Yank went in too hard with management about demanding the resources I need. Maybe the Cambodia-critical media release by the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh influenced their decision. I guess I will be waiting a long time for answers to "Why?" But I'm a better than average teacher, thank you. And like all conscientious teachers, I have frequent peer reviews, I pore over my student feedback for useable advice and I undertake as much teaching-related study as I can. Coz I know I'm not a perfect teacher. That person was my 4th grade English teacher, Mrs Hum - notable at my tender age for being the first Asian I ever met (In the 1960s I lived in Suburban Australia). I will never forget the goodbye gift she gave me, a full colour hard-backed book about desert animals!

We do not even know which place it is FFS! It would appear that the OP has Anxiety about mentioning names or details!badabing wrote:v12 wrote:Maybe, you should put yourself in front of a huge mirror to find out why this happened. Employers aren't idiots and have good intentions when they do hire new people. Hiring with bad (long term) intentions and/or bad attitude towards new people does not work and only costs an employer a lot of money due to attention towards non-business items.AnxietyPlus wrote:Anyone able to refer me to a good lawyer in Phnom Penh who can file a lawsuit against my employer for dishonoring our employment contract, signed just last month? Or do you know the best way to take my complaint to the Court of Arbitration?
You maybe have over boosted your capabilities and/or have a big mouth when confronted with the reality of work and/or show little respect to your employer or other employees ? You would not be the first to one to do so.
And, yep, I am an employer, Western, myself, so know what I do talk about. Khmer employers tend to be little different in their intentions from Western ones.
Given your k440 handle, you already seem to have recognized some behaviour issues with yourself.
Good luck to recover from your own problems.
no wonder this place has a bad rep....
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

The Cambodian legal system is the best that money can buy. Good luck and I hope you will not spend dollars chasing pennies.
As with anywhere in the world, generally when you get a lawyer involved in a dispute you have lost.
Note to self: Must be nice to morons.

Did they hire you and then fire you? What reason did they give you? Do you have a written contract that they have to pay you severance pay or something?
