I read somewhere that paracetamol and oxycodeine (sp?) Can cause fatal issues in some people
From the article:Stramash wrote:No idea if it actually reflects any information re the medications taken, but the Khmer Times story shows a picture of tramadol tablets. A senior police officer is quoted as saying “We found pills for headaches and dizziness at the scene,”
Even so, it would take a combination with something else (such as SSRIs) to normally lead to a fatal od unless they took a fairly large dose. If, to try and get a quicker effect, they had chewed, crushed, or snored tramadol, that could also offer an explanation. Tramadol OD can cause breathing issues, to the point that it can stop altogether.

I still don't know how pills for headaches and dizziness could cause you to OD unless they were some serious painkillers. Two people, same food poison, same OD? If they don't test the girls I hope they at least test the pills in the room.A senior local police officer who declined to be named said the pair may have been suffering from food poisoning before taking the medicine.
“We found pills for headaches and dizziness at the scene,” he said. “A few of their friends came and told us the girls had eaten something bad and had diarrhoea and headaches, so we think they took too much medicine.”
The officer ruled out any suggestion they may have committed suicide together.
“We cannot say it was a suicide because they called for help from guesthouse staff at around 3am,” he said. “They were sent to the provincial hospital where they were pronounced dead.
“It was definitely not murder because we did not find any marks or bruises on their bodies.”
The officer said food poisoning leading to an overdose was the most likely cause of death, but no tests had been carried out on the food in the girls’ stomachs.
Any pharmacies in Kampot that suddenly closed their doors today?

Just FYI. I'm not commenting nor speculating about these two awful deaths. RIP.

"So whilst there is a table of MLDs below, it must be highly questionable how much accuracy can be attributed to this information."
Agreed.

I'm guessing Chlorpyrifos insecticide poisoning. If not handled properly it is lethal and responsible for a number of deaths in Thailand.

Why would they ingest insecticide?kinard wrote:I'm guessing Chlorpyrifos insecticide poisoning. If not handled properly it is lethal and responsible for a number of deaths in Thailand.

Wild speculation. There was never conclusive proof that it was linked to the tourist deaths in Thailand. Even the NZ authorities only went as far as to say it was the 'likely cause'.kinard wrote:I'm guessing Chlorpyrifos insecticide poisoning. I did say it was a guess, and as far as 'conclusive proof' goes, I think they established that for the Canadian girls in Thailand some years ago. I would think that the smack OD is equally wild speculation, but then I forgot that you are an authority on drugs so you're probably right and everyone else is wrong. Good for you.

Weirdly, I have not once said it was a smack OD. I put forward the idea of tramadol only because it was pictured in the KT story, and questioned whether the picture reflected any info put forward.kinard wrote:I did say it was a guess, and as far as 'conclusive proof' goes, I think they established that for the Canadian girls in Thailand some years ago. Are you on drugs?

I'll keep an open mind, but two otherwise healthy girls both dying at the same time, in the same place, that quickly?
No vomit, no diarrhea, no signs of convulsions, just laying normally on their beds as if they just stopped breathing in their sleep.
I imagine there's not a massive list of things that can do that. But one on that short list is openly peddled by tuk tuk drivers to tourists and has killed dozens and dozens of others in a similar fashion over the years.
Who remembers the Cambodia Daily staff house incident. Wasn't that three dead and two who made it by the skin of teeth?

Yes at least one good thing is the way they lay in bed, meaning no suffering, cramps and craziness. R.I.P. and lets see, what the pharmacy story could become.
afaik, carbon monoxide can only be produced by fuel burning systems, but an interesting idea.violet wrote:Any carbon monoxide associated with air con?
