Do you guys tip at mid range restaurants?
Do you guys tip at mid range restaurants?
This issue is so confusing.
On the one hand I can sort of feel they expect me to tip, and sometimes it seems I get a bad reaction if I don't
on the other hand I'm not a tourist, I just want my meal and don't want to pay extra every day, I know the value of money here and usually the food is overpriced anyway
I'm talking about restaurants where meals are like 3-4 dollars,
How do you guys deal with it? Do you tip or not?

Tip. Tip 10%. Why would you not? The staff serving you are working mainly for tips. What is the payoff for stiffing poor girls serving you?

Umm, I don’t think this is such a random or bad question; in fact it’s one of the most common questions first time visitors have. Why such the visceral hate?Londo wrote:Not as confusing as to why you think your juvenile naive bullshit existence on this forum has any more merit than your mother's uterine discharge. This issue is so confusing.
Now fuck off.
I might have missed something, but an unsolicited attack such as this on a poster will not be tolerated in the future (not a new rule, always been this way).

Or, even better, food outlets could pay their staff a living wage so they don't have to rely on tips, customers then wouldn't feel obliged to tip the exploited staff so they can earn a living wage knowing they are being fucked by the restaurant and they wouldn't have to wonder whether the establishment manager/owner was actually skimming the tips anyway.LoneStar wrote:Tip. If you are a barang then tip something. Even a dollar or 2000 riel or whatever is probably inconsequential to you but could mean something for them. For the most part when local staff are serving foreigners they would expect the tip as they can't tell if you are a tip heavy yank or a stingy whinging Brit. Rightly or wrongly for your home country customs it doesn't matter. Don't be a cheapskate, being a barang it's kind of expected here.
yes to tipping if service is good

Where the hell are you from where you would think that food is priced high/ overvalued in Cambodia versus wherever you're from?florian wrote:I just want my meal and don't want to pay extra every day, I know the value of money here and usually the food is overpriced anyway

Looking back through Florian's posting history, it does seem I've confused the lad with someone else. My apologies.Miguelito wrote:Umm, I don’t think this is such a random or bad question; in fact it’s one of the most common questions first time visitors have. They price it at $3-$4 when the ingredients only cost $2.50. It's highway robbery.kansaicanuck wrote:Where the hell are you from where you would think that food is priced high/ overvalued in Cambodia versus wherever you're from?florian wrote:I just want my meal and don't want to pay extra every day, I know the value of money here and usually the food is overpriced anyway

Feel free to apologize to me when we meet in person, if you survive till then.
As for tipping, like GMJS , yes for good service.
Thanks for the answers, except Londo,
I no longer consider this a public forum, you go ahead and enjoy whatever you have going here.
I'll delete my account and look for a real forum.

If you leave a tip in China, they chase you down the street and give you your money back. Tipping demeans their job, and they dont like that. You are flaunting your wealth.
