Or, even better, food outlets could pay their staff a living wage so they don't have to rely on tips, customers then wouldn't feel obliged to tip the exploited staff so they can earn a living wage knowing they are being fucked by the restaurant and they wouldn't have to wonder whether the establishment manager/owner was actually skimming the tips anyway.
Or even better, guests could actually pay proper prices for their meals and hotel rooms.
And yes, I tip everywhere and no, I am not a Yank.
What is that supposed to even mean? The way that is written it implies it is the customers' fault. It isn't. The business decides its business model and consequently sets the price for services. If there is anything "improper" about the price that causes the business to be unprofitable without forcing staff to be reliant on tips, it is the business that is the problem, not the customers or staff.
Some people get off on giving it large, tipping everyone and everywhere. It's the gift that keeps on giving to the giver. Myself, I prefer my services are front-loaded with the charges I'm going to be expected to pay and to move through the world more discreetly rather than be tipping like a yank.
