https://tdnewsasia.com/archives/24733Phnom Penh: On the morning of 08 March 2018, officials of the military police sent a foreigner to court for cases of theft , after he had broken into a locker cabinet material to steal stuff on 25 February 2018,from Good Time gym # 273, # 18H Tuol ship Arch Sangke, Khan Russey Keo and police in Phnom Penh's Daun . He was arrested on 06 March 2018 near Wat Ounalom.
Chris Knight, born in 1961 in New Zealand, a retired military officer in New Zealand, confessed to police.
In Cambodia, he did not have any work, moving from a hotel down to a guesthouse and finally to stay with friends at Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Chamkarmon.
He often stole stuff from lockers in this and other gymnasiums due to lack of money. On January 25, 2018 he entered the gym at Club Amigo and when changing clothes he stole a wallet with $ 20, Cambodian identification cards, vehicle ID cards and other documents.
The suspect stated that in Good Times gym, he had stolen two items. After the action, the suspect returned to his friend's house at Sangkat Tonle Bassac, Chamkarmon.
On March 6, 2018, he was detained by the Phnom Penh military police in Daun Penh district, where he was sent to Phnom Penh Royal Military Police headquarters to build a case to be sent to court.

Let's say it was a poster here... does his crime immediately negate any forum declaration that members should not be outed? Just so I am clear for the future.

That's a good question. I think it might still be prohibited for someone to declare "I know the guy in the photo and he tells me he posts as Chris K"
But it probably isn't prohibited to say "The story is about a 67 year old Kiwi named Chris Knight who is ex military and lives on a pension, and we have a poster here with the username Chris K and who posted in 2015 that he's from New Zealand and was waiting for his army pension to kick in."

The thread on ToF says Chris Knight admitted to police that he also stole often from Star Mart.
Poster Chris K posted here two months ago about watching down and out expats stealing from supermarkets:

He also posted three weeks ago about being followed by staff in mini marts:Chris K wrote:There are a couple of "supposedly down and out expats" wandering the streets of PP. Lost passport, broke and all that. I see them from time to time in the mini marts and supermarkets. Talked to one of them once when he requested 2000 riel off me....got a sob story explanation. Anyway...I've seen them both at various times at Aeon Mall Supermarket and I was wondering why they could afford the high prices when both of them live on the street. The older one always opens a nice bottle of red wine and sips from it in the seating areas inside or outside in the smoking area. I know why he can afford it....it costs him nothing! Free. I watched him in action in the bottleshop area....casually slip a bottle in his open bag over his shoulder and wander out. Aeon mall is all to easy as opposed to lucky supermarkets or the mini marts. All of them have cameras in every aisle plus staff in the aisles wandering up and down. Basically to prevent theft. Aeon mall is different. I checked their security after seeing this guy in action.
Apart from the cashier area....there are TWO cameras only in the whole store. One is where the expensive cosmetics section is and the other is in the far left corner of the store in the big goods section. In all the food aisles, alcohol section, refrigerated section there are no cameras. The plain clothes security (if you are an experienced shoplifter) is a comedy act they are that obvious. Two guys always..Khaki clothing...wandering the aisles with no trolley pretending they are looking at the products. Walkie talkies strapped to their hips talking to each other and they often stop and talk to the obvious security staff in the blue uniforms. Always security wait outside the supermarket but they never check shoppers personal bags. The stealers exit is easy....walk straight out passing a nonchalent bored looking guard. There is a bag drop but it is not enforced. You could basically load up your back-pack discretly in Aeon Mall and the staff are none the wiser. Same as with the Aeon Mall supermarket in Tuol Kork....two cameras only. Aeon Mall is Japanese owned right?

I think that it depends on entirely how funny the crime is - for example, if he were to drunkenly beat up an ATM, or knock himself out by running into a glass door after he robbed a bank, then it would probably be okay. But then again, maybe it would not.violet wrote:Let's say it was a poster here... does his crime immediately negate any forum declaration that members should not be outed? Klepto, ran out of money...? I always wonder why people (foreigners) do that. Only logical reason is being destitute, but I'd he was on a pension or waiting for it, doesn't make much sense. He did seem to have an obsession for shoplifting. I go to the gym in question and there are huge signs on the locker room doors saying the there are cameras (in case you were half blind and couldn't see the cameras).

Not sure if the same guy but looks similar - does he usually have a mustache? often to be seen in Sundance or that area.... and if it is who I'm thinking of (and I apologise to Chris K for slinging further mud if it isn't) he apparently used to regularly go to the french institute first thing, often banging on the door at 8am being a bit rude to the staff in the process. Once in he would proceed to have a good old wash in the bathroom and then wash his clothes in the sink before leaving, without buying anything of course.
Can not work this bit out either, as he is prolly 57 years old and not 67 and wont be receiving a state pension until 65 years old. Re 'waiting for his army pension', I would guess he would already be getting that if he had retired from the forces. Maybe not even been in the army, just another blowhard who's run out of funds.LexusSchmexus wrote:...on a pension or waiting for it, doesn't make much sense.

When I talked to him he had said he was receiving his pension and that he was here because with the lower cost of living it meant he didn't need to work, I never bothered to ask him his age. Fwiw, he did not play up the military service to me, only mentioned it in passing and seemed like a nice enough guy.kinard wrote:Can not work this bit out either, as he is prolly 57 years old and not 67 and wont be receiving a state pension until 65 years old. I suppose stealing from Chevron/Caltex could be considered delivering karmagavinmac wrote:The thread on ToF says Chris Knight admitted to police that he also stole often from Star Mart.
Can we give him a forum medal, I mean perhaps a smart lawyer could say he was trying to slow down the negative effects of globalisation/global warming?
We could ask a red-headed Hollywood actress to chip in and say something, I mean it's theft, yes, but it's in a noble cause...a bit like a woman claiming she whored to save people whilst pocketing huge amounts for an NGO in a developing country..oh, wait...
