Changes at Post Office??
Changes at Post Office??
For years I had packages of supplements/vitamins sent to me from the US to Phnom Penh by post and I would pick them up at the post office no problem - just a small fee (about 15,000 riels) for a medium size box that weighed a couple kgs. Starting a few months ago they require my passport, a letter from a doctor (to prove the supplements/vitamins are for me and presumably to be sure I wasn't selling them), and I have to pay 17% tax on the value of the contents! And, the process can take up to 2 hours. Anybody else see this change at the post office? Why the change? Any way to avoid it?
They are about 2 kgs - about the size of 2 shoe boxes. It never was a problem before (over 9 years) including boxes 2-3 times that size. Just started to be a problem a few months ago...

Get them sent with ANYTHING BUT EMS SHIT
I'm receiving lots of packages monthly with tracking number from counter 32, never have to pay anything beside the 2500KHR, small ones and much bigger ones.
Everytime it is sent by EMS, the smartass custom officers will open the package, no matter how big it is and then, depending on their mood, they will give it to their colleague for tax collection.
Other option is to get it shipped by DHL, the shipping price will be higher but maybe not as much as the 17% taxes?

Why would I care? I'm Khmer
How do I ensure that the shop in the US ships by means other than EMS?? As far as I can tell I do not have any influence on the way they ship it to me. They simply use the cheapest method and regular international post, I guess. I have never seen any options. Once I asked if they would use DHL and they said no.
Got many large EMS packages with a variety of contents - never asked to pay anything. But the Post Office is going bananas: sent a fax today - got charged $3 for a single page. Apparently if it takes 1 minute (exactly) the price goes from $2 (under 1 minutes) to $3, and if it takes 1 minute and 1 second it's $4. Fucking retards.
Phone calls are charged by the minute by telcos, and overseas phone calls can be expensive.RBD wrote:Got many large EMS packages with a variety of contents - never asked to pay anything. It's about 9 cents a page, or some similarly inconsequential amount, using online fax services, why not use one of them?
