How spread out is it? Can you walk around the old town and see most of the sites then catch a bus to casinos and repeat or are you on and off buses all day?

A bus/taxi from old town to the Cotai strip where the new casinos are takes 20 minutes. You can walk around the whole old town, like from the ruins of St. Paul's church to the museum to the other churches and to Wynn Macau, in a couple of hours. From there you can get the free hotel shuttle to Wynn Palace, located on the Cotai Strip. Then you can walk around and see the major hotels on the Cotai Strip for a half day.

2 nights and 1-1.5 days there is enough. It's best combined with a trip to Hong Kong, which is an hour away by fast ferry. But Cambodians need a visa in advance to visit Hong Kong. Actually, one of the reasons why I took her to Macau is in the hope that it will improve her chances to get a future visa to visit Hong Kong.

I don't think anyone really gets rejected for the Hong Kong visa, just one form and 5 days wait. Also very easy to get the double entry one if you want to break up your trip by going to Macau (the boat is nice and runs nearly 24 hrs.

Strange that they queried the amount of cash for the Cambodian. I had no problem taking one, but maybe that was because we arrived by boat and had already got the HK visa.

As GM says, plenty of free shuttle busses to take you all around the island, the local busses also very clean & frequent. The town has a lot of beautiful old Portuguese buildings, the cotai side is exactly what you would expect some of the biggest casinos to look like. I am not a gambler so didn't stay too long. The missus loved the Venetian canals though. Boat across in the morning and then back to HK at around 1am.

Both of them give each other the cold stare when it comes time to pay the bill.
