James Ricketson arrested at CNRP rally
In reply to scoffer I can only conclude that you equate the government of despots in Vietnam with its political prisoners, who used military force to place Hun Sen in power, with the government of australia (whatever its failings) where as yet you can say what you like, using diplomatic pressure to
try to get a journalist released from prison. The two have nothing in common. Those who oppose free speech are always quick to say that other governments can not interfere in domestic affairs. Its China's favorite retort when the truth about their rulers is mentioned. In short your either for free speech or in against it.

all pictures i have seen of him suggest that he moonlights as Frankenstein on his days off.
note too the critical words in the first link "He has 30 days to appeal his sentence."

Ye, watch out for the Cambodian retirement plans. pretty rough on the edges.
Huge response in Australia to Ricketsons plight. On TV and on twitter even well know journos said that Cambodia was a crap country with a brutal dictatorship, stop the aid etc etc etc. He was trending on twitter with 15,000 comments. I told of the Ricketson that we knew and posted excerpts from his blogspot 440 site where he posted and then commented as anon.
What a fucking moron. And I pointed out that Australia can do bugger all for expats in jail and that cambodia was not a crap country, in fact we quite like it. And that the opposition were worthless, racist dog whistlers without any policies for agriculture, health or education.
And that cambodia does not run concentration camps and kill refugees-14 dead I think.
All quiet today.

Hi John, i will scip the crazy. I totally agree with you!!
The man got caught spying, he got off easy. Interesting to see whether Australia will now admit that he was an undercover agent. We don't know the extent of his spy work here, all we know for certain is that Ricketson is a convicted spy. He'll probably be returned to the Australian secret service after things quiet down.dunderish wrote:In reply to scoffer I can only conclude that you equate the government of despots in Vietnam with its political prisoners, who used military force to place HE in power, with the government of australia (whatever its failings) where as yet you can say what you like, using diplomatic pressure to

Also, Vietnam didn't put the balls out for you, am I right?

“We’re still unclear about what his exact diagnosis is but he has a persistent chest infection, ongoing skin irritations, loss of energy, loss of weight and frequent dizzy spells,” the Ricketson family said.
Six years in convalescence, why complain about that.

Never mind.

I can hardly stand being in a waiting room with 12 noisy locals. Can't imagine what it's like being locked in a small, grimy room with 140 or whatever the number other dirty, sick criminals.....
you mean you have never had to walk past a tuktuk rank in phom penh!kansaicanuck wrote: Can't imagine what it's like being locked in a small, grimy room with 140 or whatever the number other dirty, sick criminals.....

Médecins Sans Frontières says 4 - 6 times national average for TB in prisons, HIV at nine times the average.violet wrote:What's the incidence of TB in prison here?
*Doctors Without Borders
There was an outbreak of TB in the local prison which spurred the paying of getting druggy nephew out. Within a few months, he's back on the gear and been disowned, so that was a waste of 3 grand.
