My friend I'm no expert, spent 1 month here on holiday loved it, now sadly back in Austin, Texas. But reading around seems most basic western teachers (not qualified ones) earn $1000 so I can't see them paying $450 so he must be on at least $1500 which from what I understand makes him in the 1% of western teachersoffshoresports wrote:$450 is higher up? Peca claims to have lived in PP for nearly 8 years, yet (due to him talkin so much on the forums is some kinda educator, the fact he pays $450 says he's higher up than your average joe) yet I deduce from all his time here he doesn't know how to speak a jot of Khmer. kinda embarrassing. Some others mocked you as a newbie but after I read that sweet sweet tale you wrote about the motodop, well it was like Cambodia's answer to brokeback mountian, replete with you dressed like you were from the blue oyster bar like WTF MAN

I am vindictive at times with Khmers...helps me stay somewhat normal.
Take his chair away when he is out, on your bike getting food...he will be like a fish out of water. He will get the message.

Why do people think that every foreigner here is a teacher?Jack Frost wrote:My friend I'm no expert, spent 1 month here on holiday loved it, now sadly back in Austin, Texas. WHo assumes anything buddy? Where did I say everyone was a teacher?
you read the motodop story by Peca he clearly says he teaches. All I said was that I had heard/read on this forum many times that unqualified teachers earn around $1000 those with a degree etc can expect more depending on where they are. He can't be a bottom feeder teacher if he's paying $450.
take a chill pill dude
Did you know that not every teacher in Cambodia is a TEFLer, and that some of them actually are educational professionals who teach specialized subjects? I know, who knew?
And yes, I bought a lock, and took great satisfaction of locking it up right in front of the guard and then jangling my keys around him like a Medieval dungeon master. I have no desire for revenge by messing with his life and playing little pranks on him, I simply want to be left alone.

I didn’t say ‘assume’. I said ‘think’. Not just directed at you, but yes triggered by your question.Jack Frost wrote:ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Jack Frost wrote:offshoresports wrote:Why do people think that every foreigner here is a teacher?Jack Frost wrote:

Anyway IF the motodop story is from the same guy (I saw a different authors name on it - but can’t be bothered to read into it to check) then you are assuming now that he is doing the same job as he was 3 years ago.
You are also assuming he doesn’t have a partner who is earning.
So who is assuming? You are.
Being in Cambodia for 8 yrs and still parking (assuming a more high-end) bike in a communal area, without it locking to something fixed/heavy, seems pretty naive to me. You don't leave your motobike there, with the key in the lock, do you ?
After 8 yrs, still no basic Khmer speaking seems odd to me too.
The handling: You seem to live there for a longer time, did you not become friends with everybody providing basic services in the building ? You may want to do so, it may save your but and a lot of money, somewhere in future.
USD 450 for an apartment can be OK. I pay USD 320 all-in (except electric) for a newly build one BR, one BR, with all furniture. Western style (So no Chinese or Singapore version).

2004 Chivas Shack. I left my moto safe sure, gave Mama Chiva the key. Safe. I took her niece to Siam Reap for 2 weeks.
Get back, I notice the odometer has clocked up 320 k's. So. I ask, wtf ? Mama says Chiva take my bike ,use it.
Then Papa Chiva is like, wtf Jep? why didn't I give him the key for safe keeping.. then he calls out son Chiva, and the bash happened, it was not nice to view, an then the apology and what can he do to correct this....I said it's ok man. i'll just pour my own beers free for the next month, I did. It worked out well..Problem resolved, Sorted. No anger
I married the niece soon after that.
Don't get angry...Get even.

WARNING: this post is not intended for the mentally impaired perhaps search for the chicken's post and read them instead. thanks.
What would you do? Seriously? Get a lock, preferably before the bike gets stolen, is what I would do. You've done that already, Pecahead, so I'd say you are done. Lesson learned, if a bit late into your stay.

What a "Storm in a Tea Cup" !
Just buy a cheap lock for your bike and move on in life.
Life is too short for these sorts of tantrums.

Maybe I'm missng something here, but if I lived in a place where somebody who is employed to protect my stuff steals my stuff.....see my previous comment. I live in a building with 24/7 security and one night a prostitute got past the guard and was knocking on doors offering "massages". I told the owner the next day and poof! The magic disappearing security person!
