Very sorry for your loss. Most of the ambulances donated were stripped of useful gear almost immediately....EMS here is about zero with little chance of that changing anytime soon. Billions spent on condo towers...but no EMS or Fire that can deal with a modern city. Brilliant.jackrossi wrote:I thought that since the the government got new ambulances from China not long ago which (at least on the outside) looked quite standard I expected private companies to field something better. I have seen a couple nice modern ambulances going around PP in KC I expected something that had least had the bare necessities. a cheape defibrillator costs 3k an used oxigen tank few hundred dollars, Epinephrine injections a couple of dollars each, other emergency injectables are a few hundred dollars for a full set. teaching your staff basic CPR just takes a a few days. Going on the cheap you can make a decent set of items for 6k- 7k compared to the cost of the ambulance that very little.crazyjohn wrote:Sorry about your mate but why were you surprised at thd level of service? Friend just passed away, I realized in Cambodia ambulances have no oxygen or defibrillators onboard.

There is going to be a new ambulance service. Not sure if their vehicles are equipped, but they are focused on Chinese.
Just heard about it a week ago. I'll keep you a .................... breast when I hear more.
Two new hospitals, too.

I love bitches n gonna fuck Texas and the USA+ right up their god damn ass! Hallelujah!
I am very sorry to hear that. Please he Rest In Peace!jackrossi wrote:One close friend of mine just passed away, his son called me as he was beginning to lose consciousness last night while getting a glass of water, I arrived just before he completely lost consciousness and the ambulance arrived about 1 minute later. From the moment he lost consciousness just before being loaded in the ambulance to the hospital it took around 7 minutes.
When he entered the ambulance he still had a pulse and I measured myself what were normal blood pressure numbers and what was likely a fibrillating heart.
My friend's wife called the ambulance but what showed up was barely a lexus with a stretcher and some stickers on the side.
I helped the paramedics load my friend in and jumped in the back of the ambulance.
Nothing in the ambulance, no drugs, no defibrillator, no oxygen tank, no machine to monitor his vital signs (ecg-pulse oximeter) NADA. Nobody attempted cpr besides myself but the ambulance staff interrupted me, which I obliged assuming that they knew better.
As we arrived at the hospital only 2 people came out, a sleepy chinese volunteer doctor (that looked like a teenager) and a nurse, they brought out a portable ECG and he was already showing a flatline (asystole) they just spoke a second to his wife and the ambulance brought him back home for the funerary rituals, no attempt was made to perform cpr administer Epinephrine or anything else. Just the sleepy doctor said: he is already dead mam. Do you want us to bring him in?
I barely understand khmer but the whole exchange lasted barely a few seconds.
What shocked me was that the ambulance had no equipment at all and that nobody attempted even basic CPR, seriously how can you run an ambulance business and not have even basic shit? I am moderately confident he could have been saved if they had a defibrillator with them as the guy was in his 50s and very energetic with no previous history of heart failure.
Anyway this happened in kampongcham, some private private ambulance and the largest hospital in town which is supposed to be not bad.
I remember when I was training for my second year in government hospital, I almost learnt nothing at that time, not even know about first aid or cpr,the staff there asked me to go on an old smelly ambulance to take the patient from somewhere to the hospital and they did not tell me about the patient condition. On the ambulance only only have oxygen tank, not sure what I could help the patient, so I asked them to send someone else.
So I can imagine what was happening on ambulance. Mostly private ambulance( from Private hospital) are equipped and the people in car are more professional.

Condolences.
It’s important to remember that even if your friend had 1st class medical care he still would have possibly died. My best died at 50yo whilst ironing a shirt. Girlfriend was a trained nurse. Doctors said he died before he hit the floor.
Second mate left Cambodia and died of a heart attack in Singapore. His wife said the paramedics were there in 5 minutes. Died before then even with CPR.
I know you seek answers but I don’t think there are any.
RIP.

Sorry about your friend. 57 is way too young.
I believe everyone should have an emergency medical plan to get out of Cambodia in case your health takes a downturn. My plan is to get to Bumrungrad hospital as soon as possible.
Remember our friend Hennig. Making a desperate run for Germany, which he never completed.

Sorry to hear about your friend passing.
The lack of adequate health care is unnerving in Cambodia and not just in the provinces. PP needs a well run medical institution that teaches younger health care workers how to properly manage the welfare of their patients. A westernized hospital with high standards not unlike Bumrungrad International Hospital. And, no, The Royal PP Hospital is not it.

There are a number of excellent medical services in Phnom Penh. I have used Central Hospital since it opened in 2012. Sunrise over in Chroy Changvar is another good place.offshoresports wrote:Sorry to hear about your friend passing.

You'll still want to get out of country if you get sick.

100% accurate and believe me when I say standards can be written, but what I've seen they aren't followed.Daum Penh Stalker wrote:You'll still want to get out of country if you get sick.

When I was running a hospital here 20 years ago I would agree, but now that is certainly not the case. Of course medical facilities are variable but if one is living here other than being a tourist it is not to difficult to target and secure good services. What medical procedures would you need to leave the country for? We can deal with TBI, and Cardio-vascular Surgery as well as general surgery and skin grafts etc. Neurosurgery is an area that is only recently being adressedDaum Penh Stalker wrote:You'll still want to get out of country if you get sick.
Of course the private sector is developing faster than the public sector. A fair examination of the health care sector is given by Dr. Kee Park here:
Dr. Park: The goal of the Cambodia Neurosurgery Support Project is to come alongside Cambodian neurosurgeons and provide assistance and expertise when needed. The Cambodian Society of Neurosurgeons was only established a few years ago, and support from the international community of neurosurgeons can be very helpful in improving standards in neurosurgical care, training and research. We also helped in acquiring new equipment such as a surgical drill and operating microscopes. We also support with organisation of educational symposia and annual meetings in Cambodia. When we brought to attention the disparities in access to surgical care in the provinces, the Society has chosen to address this issue by training general surgeons to provide life-saving emergency neurosurgical care at the provincial level. https://www.b2b-cambodia.com/articles/d ... e-kingdom/

there used to be an ambulance parked outside the American Skool on St 63, all day every day. Well, it had a big red cross on its side. That was twenty years ago.
