I need to get from Siem Reap to Hanchey next week.
The plan is to take a minivan to Kampong Thma (Thmor) and then get a ride from there to Hanchey. Possibly changing in Stung Trong. This would be a shorter route rather than getting off in Skuon and going via Kampong Cham to Hanchey (the new Hanchey Bamboo Resort is our destination)...
So the question is: anyone with experience of changing buses in Kampong Thma? When I've passed through it seems there is always a fair bit of traffic. What are the chances of getting a ride quickly to Hanchey?
If anyone lives in the area and has some advice it would be appreciated!
Kampong Thma (Thmor) to Hanchey

I know it's not much help, but if it were me I would go to the Tela station at the end of the bridge.Seems to be the center of the universe in Kompong Thmor. If you don't speak Khmer then shoot video on your phone of a Khmer saying where you want to go and show it to some one.Or call the place your going and have a Khmer there tell the driver where you need to go.Just a thought.

I should have looked it up first. On second thought,go to Kompong Cham and get a ride from there.Straight shot.Looks like it's just North of that crazy pagoda on the small hill. It's a pretty area. The West side is higher than any other place on the Mekong in Cambodia.
Would definitely go straight to kampong cham, then grab a taxi to hanchey.
Kampong thma will have vans, and the road through Speu to Stung Trong and down to phnom hanchey is nice, but if time is important just go sr > kc

Thanks both.
The Skuon-KC route is sure to be busier....but is going to meaning driving past KC to get to Hanchey.
The road Kompong Thmor-Hanchey is not likely to be direct (perhaps a change in Stung Trong)...but at least means we don't travel extra mileage. And in any case we will come back Hanchey-KC-Siem Reap a couple of days later.
We should arrive Kompong Thmor around 10.30am I guess so hopefully ok before everyone stops for lunch/sleep....
And yes that dusty crossroad/station in Kompong Thmor seems the busy place!

It all went even better than I had hoped...
Left Siem Reap at 7.30am on Cambodia Post van. Got off at Kampong Thmor junction. First people the missus spoke to said buses/minivans would pass 30-45 mins later on the way to Stung Trong. I suggested we cross the road and speak to different people. That worked well. We found a remork/pick up driver who could take us for $20 to Stung Trong. We negotiated another 10km to get to our destination and left immediately. Arrived at Hanchey Bamboo Resort at just after 12.
Hanchey Bamboo Resort is a nice place for a weekend getaway from Phnom Penh (or Siem Reap). A wonderful Mekong river view and a relaxing countryside that is hardly developed at all. Yoga and meditation are planned for tomorrow morning!
