My local branch of the god bothering NGO has shut down. It's a big office building on Rd 4, signs removed, gates locked and apparently emptied.
Is this a thing? They were a big player in town.

Cambodia has had a lot of growth and is slowly moving up in GDP. There's a cut-off point where a country will be perceived as a middle-income country and many agencies will pull out because it's not mandated as a pressing issue anymore. This of course may be disadvantageous to those most in need who are benefiting from existing programs that are cut off. It's inevitable that a country will be expected to stand on its own eventually, after all the strife has faded into distant memory. However the violence, abuse and poverty still exist, and because there have been so many foreign-funded organizations keen to deal with these issues the government have been very slack in picking up the pieces. I imagine that foreign organizations will exist in Cambodia for a long time to come, at least the respectable ones. The bullshit ones should be sorted out though.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

They are separate organisations. One was born out of the other but run completely separately. One is an NGO and the other a for-profit micro finance company.henryhungfunny wrote:A quick search says they are the same people.
A Korean bank bought Vision Fund last year. https://m.phnompenhpost.com/business/so ... visionfund
That would make sense as there is a big, brand new Woori building about to open a few hundred metres down the road.epidemiks wrote:A Korean bank bought Vision Fund last year. https://m.phnompenhpost.com/business/so ... visionfund
Massive stalker
Yes, Wooribank has taken over VisionFund - few changes at the top, but otherwise BAU.
I got a sneak at Wooribank's emergency room at their HQ in Seoul a few years back whilst meeting the big cheese of all things Woori; it was something out of a James Bond movie, giving a presentation about Wing back then seemed a bit chalk & cheese with pics of agents out in the ass end of nowhere. I expected them to tell me they didn't expect me to talk, they expected Wing to die & then the floor would open up to reveal some most evil plan on global domination!
