For Sale, 1994 White Mercedes C280 asking $2500 - Kampot
**car is in Kampot**
Strong running and driving car, no road problems. 2.8 liter inline 6. Not super powerful, (190hp stock if i remember right) but enough to make passing on Route #4 fairly easy. Car was repainted two years ago, but cracks are noticeable on the plastic parts. Overall pretty straight, does have a slight crinkled fender left front (pictured) interior is in very good shape, especially considering the age. Always starts, always runs. Made a trip up and back to sihanoukville last week with no problems. Wheels are off a Nissan. Front tires excellent, rears are still good, but new tires in a year or two depending on your driving. All lights working.
The bad (I will let you know everything I know about the car, fair disclosure.)
-A.C. does not work (I don’t drive with the A.C. on, so never looked into it)
-doors do not lock (not sure the problem, I just don’t leave “stealables” in the car)
-front windows are fine, rear windows don’t work, right rear is a motor gear, left side I don’t know, left side is stuck in the 7/8ths up position. last tax paid in 2016
Those are the major things, there is a handful of small nit-pick items wrong, dome light broken, drivers side carpet is missing but does have a floor mat, weak hood hinges, need to prop up with a stick, etc. Numerous smalls you would expect from a 20+ year old car in Cambodia.
Please no tire kickers or low ballers. This is possibly the best Mercedes you will find for this price in Cambodia.
The car can usually be seen parked along the park near the old market late afternoon to evening if you happen to see it there. If it’s parked there I am within walking distance from the car, call me if you want to take a look when you see it there.

if you have a spare mercedes key that fits, then give it a go
Damn that’s cheap.
Best engine. Inline straight six goodness.
Sadly I don’t need another car. (Not that that’s ever been an issue!)

At an industry gig last night over several whiskeys we concurred that in-line 6s are probably the best engines going. Especially in a light package. Not many left though - they’re just too damn big and expensive to be cost effective.YaTingPom wrote:Damn that’s cheap.

Haha - my money’s on Playboy
The 2.8 straight six is a beautiful engine. Mine used to sound great when you kicked it down and it really took off. On the open road you could race the Lexies flat out and still get 28 mpg. I should have turned mine into a ute.
But the stuff that goes wrong with German cars, it’s terrible. I have a 16 year old Corolla and everything still works.

I remember there was a period when Mercedes had a terrible reputation for electrical problems, I think it must have been in the early 90s.

90s was Mercedes heyday, after the 70s. They had issues when Chrysler owned them (98-03?) and messed up the paint and added unnecessary electronics.
I actually know this car. He’s bought the E420 I was talking to you about PH.
I only use my car once a month so no pint replacing it with a car that doesn’t like to sit around and needs work and doesn’t have AC!

If anyone fancies upgrading from their crappy, old mans Mercedes-Benz to a proper automobile, this one has just come up for sale in Phnom Penh ...

It's probably got a Camry engine.

Some wise guy at M-B decided to switch to fluorine free wiring due to environmental (cheaper) reasons. Unfortunately, the insulation material did not hold up well to the large temperature changes you have under the bonnet, resulting in the insulation on especially engine harnesses falling apart. Not a cheap job to repair.
