Reminds me what I was telling my wife the other day.

I think the main difference between expat 1.0 and 2.0 is right there: expat 1.0 managed to survive without being fed by FB, found the best girlie bar without step-by-step routing from Maps.me, got a good meal in without following TripAdvisor, and knew what supermarkets stocked without asking on a forum.
Don't get me wrong, I use all of the above, but not for the inane questions that get posted on expat pages every goddamn farking second.

Does the Fat, Drunk and Crippled Men’s Yoga Group use FB or other forms of social media to promote itself, one wonders?
Yes they do, but it's disguised as a "Furred Friendship Group" so no one will know it's them.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 2:15 pmDoes the Fat, Drunk and Crippled Men’s Yoga Group use FB or other forms of social media to promote itself, one wonders?
I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Maps.me?? My god man, it's called google maps! I'm sure your kids can download it onto your phone for you.Hanno wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 1:32 pmI think the main difference between expat 1.0 and 2.0 is right there: expat 1.0 managed to survive without being fed by FB, found the best girlie bar without step-by-step routing from Maps.me, got a good meal in without following TripAdvisor, and knew what supermarkets stocked without asking on a forum.

So expat 1.0 used free travel maps and read Lonely Planet instead of Trip Adviser?
I think that everyone here will call me a 2.0, but I also was an expat before the proliferation of Facebook and Smart phones. I too was an expat without a cellphone, lived in a town without internet, and didn't give a fuck if lunch had been out on the counter with the flies for two days before eating it.
So, is the real difference that I never shagged a Sophies girl? Maybe that should be the litmus test.

This is exactly the point - I have stopped following several of the FB groups precisely because I can not cope with the fact that every third question is posted by some half-witted jobbernowl asking where he can buy a loaf of bread, or some such nonsense.Hanno wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 1:32 pmI think the main difference between expat 1.0 and 2.0 is right there: expat 1.0 managed to survive without being fed by FB, found the best girlie bar without step-by-step routing from Maps.me, got a good meal in without following TripAdvisor, and knew what supermarkets stocked without asking on a forum.

The complete and utterly inability to function in the world outside of FaceBook will spell the end of the human race (with the exception of Expat 1.0 who will just get on with things and then go for a beer)

Yes, as we measure human existence in terms of BC and AD, everything to do with expat existence in Cambodia can be viewed in termsof Before Sophie's and After Sophie's.

There was no Lonely Planet Cambodia when I first came here and no free maps unless you count that shitty one in the Bayon Pearnik.

^ What he said.
Plus, I think that the Bayon P is still using exactly the same map as it did back then

Pretty much, except they put a sand texture on Boueng Kak, ignoring the fact that it's covered in roads now.
