" According to a series of government reports released Thursday, 70,237 people died of drug overdoses in 2017 — an increase from the 63,632 overdose deaths the U.S. saw in 2016 and setting another record high — while the nation’s suicide rate increased by 3.7 percent. According to government estimates, those deaths, often called “deaths of despair,” helped push the U.S. life expectancy to 78.6 years, a decrease of one-tenth of a year from 2016 and a whopping three-tenths of a year since 2014. Mortality rates worsened most for middle-aged black men, and white men and women. The country is now in the longest period of declining life expectancy since 1918, when World War I and a devastating flu pandemic drove life expectancy to 39 years old, according to ABC News.
Life expectancy is often used as a measure for a country’s overall health and economic status. In Canada, for example, life expectancy is 79.8 years. The rates are even higher in Japan, Norway and Australia, according to data kept by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. That’s because advances in science and health technology have allowed nations, including the U.S., to slowly chip away at rates of leading killers like cancer and heart disease, which declined and leveled off, respectively, in 2017. Yet those breakthroughs are being offset by preventable deaths relating to addiction and mental illness. " From vice news https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/a3m ... -heres-why

Freedom is not a state. It is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau.. Freedom is a continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.-John Lewis
I know this might sound brash, but I don't trust in statistics too much anymore. There's no way you can convince me that Americans are in any way just 1 year behind in life expectancy than the Danish. If they somehow are through the magic of number bending, then those years are severely diminished in quality.
Just look at Americans, and then look at the Danish, it's a night and day difference who is healthier.

That is so amusing regarding places like Denmark, cause the population there are very heavy drinkers and smokers. In environmentally clean little Denmark, if you look closely around public places, they are littered with disgusting cigarette buds on the ground,
And as for the social liberal 'flexicurity' model.. as it is officially named, it is under severe pressure, and is projected to falter from an aging population, and so be unable to finance itself in the late 2030's
So now they are raising the retirement age to almost 80 years old. And as the Muslims grow in numbers due to having far more kids than the locals, as well as being unemployed and uneducated, it's a recipe for disaster, as in the rest of Europe, it might just turn into wholly muslim nations in a few decades.
Just a few days ago there was war like scenarios in Copenhagen from muslim anger raised by a far right winger who was being disrespectful towards the Quran in public, to challenge the right to freedom of speech. And so the police was robbed their Easter vacation, instead being targeted by cobblestones and molotov cocktails by a sizeable and very autonomous group of lowlifes.

Almost all of Europe has far more socialist policies than America. Most of them are finding that free stuff for all works only when all are willing to work for it, which makes it an oxymoron. Free is not really free. Many Americans are finding that the more government interferes, the more come out of their pockets. The working class is tired of it, hence Trump. What is really funny is that when college students, most of whom have been highly indoctrinated by liberal professors, have what the free programs will really cost them in the future explained to them in simple terms, they find they are against them after all. Most of them are not really stupid, just misled.newnewnewbie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 8:06 amThat is so amusing regarding places like Denmark, cause the population there are very heavy drinkers and smokers. When will the majority of Americans realise that having a huge economy, although making you big, doesn't necessarily make you smart or clever. Just look at the US health service and those it leaves behind.
I am personally sick to the back teeth of right wingers constantly winging about 'free' healthcare.
Healthcare is never free. It's all based on insurance contributions. The difference between a progressive country (Finland, the UK etc) is that it is a national insurance scheme: contributions paid by all wage earners, as opposed to many private insurance companies. The right wing see unfairness iin this as they did when they were told that they couldn't use children to clean chimneys or work in factories anymore. Excuse given? Because they won't be contributing to society and will just sponge off those that do.

Americans are among the most generous people in the world. What we don't like is being told we need to provide things for people who don't want to work and want everything given to them for free. As far as child labor, America was not the first, and certainly not the only country guilty of that. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Or people who live in glass houses... What every country I have seen, or heard about, are havng problems with, is sustaining free healthcare for all on the backs of the workers. Finland even tried giving a minimum wage to people who didn't work at all. That is history now.Aseriousman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 11:59 amWhen will the majority of Americans realise that having a huge economy, although making you big, doesn't necessarily make you smart or clever. Are you a proponent of bringing back Hoovervilles?
The people that lived in those places didn't contribute either, and they were given a very hard time for it.
Remember?

I am in favor of "No work, no eat" for all able bodied citizens, and throwing out those who aren't citizens and don't have visas.

The people of Finland live longer than we do and like the rest of the modern world pay half of what we pay here in the US. They are not letting coroporate profits dictate non nutritious meals be placed on the menus at school. You don't seem to want to talk about that. Always that Fox opinion just spewing out of yer gob.

Yeah I am all for that. Huge starvation camps for all the imbeciles who are replaced by automation. We don't need them, so let them perish. And as the supermarkets throw out tons of genetically modified unsold items into trash containers with security locks, we can all be proud of how capitalism seem to solve all our societal problems, in the most efficient ways.
Bye bye losers.. the future is ours, and they will be dead.
