Feet on Tables etc in Public
Feet on Tables etc in Public
Is it acceptable to put ones feet on a table in public?
I don't think it is, and just felt compelled to point this out to gent in, of all places, the dining area of the business class lounge at Manila airport. And, I know you are thinking 'were they unshoed?' Yes, they bloody well were!
WTF is wrong with people these days?

Nine times out of then it is Americans that I have to ask to remove their feet from the table. Just sayin’....

Pretty sure not a chink. He had moustaches. Going by the flights that were being called I think Arab. Anyway, he quickly skuttled off after my little affrontation.

Exactly what I did when he didn't tell me to fuck off. That is to say, continue enjoying my gin pahit.

The habitat of the gentleman is being eroded just as surely as that of the jungle-dweller.
I realised this when someone showed me a picture of the site owner wearing a winged collar with black tie.

I've seen some strange behavior in some of those premium lounges, the few times I've tried them. Some folks are just sooo special it seems. He he

Presumably though, one would let the guy leave his feet on the table if he had already run up a rather large tab in your restaurant for example?

Good for you.
Feet on the table is abhorrent and such boorish behavior should be challenged by any self respecting gentleman of grace and aplomb.
However, I am more curious about our lovely slavedog's retelling of said encounter.
You said that after confronting this animal, he "scuttled off", that is to say either by the force of your words or menacing presence, he got up from his seat and either moved or left the business lounge entirely.
I'm thinking that a measured, "Excuse me, this is a public place and business lounge no less, please take your feet off of the table." Would not have left the offending troglodyte feeling that his only response should be to flee the area.
So your story lends one to think that you were quite forceful in your "affrontation". In which one would understand if he was startled and took leave of the area. So as to not further provoke the ire and possibly incur physical wrath from our hero.
So, you're saying that even after a verbally forceful encounter, had he been even more the brute than previously thought, and just up and told you to "Fuck off."...
...You mean to say that you would have just turned heel and sauntered back to your pleather chair and quietly continued to sip your cocktail...defeated?
My suspicion is that our slavedog used a little poetic license in the retelling of what in actuality was a rather benign encounter. Most likely something along the lines of "This is a business lounge, take your feet off the table." "Oh, grumble, mumble-mumble." (feet come down)
But either way, feet were removed from tabletop...well done slavedog. No need to make yourself look like some sort of bad-ass, putting fear in the hearts of the uncultured and causing them to scuttle away at the sight of you.

Umm, what’s wrong with a winged collar with black bow tie?
Here’s British GQ that states that is appropriate black tie attire: https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/black-tie-guide
