You sods, in your froth to jump on the America bashing bandwagon, fail to notice that this pictures were taken within the confines of their private offices, not in public.
But don't let me get in the way of some good ole Yank slamming.

I was going to say the same, either their private office or private jets.
A public figure can't stage a realistic photo reflecting how they relax at home or in the office for public viewing?Hanno wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:17 amNothing to do with "Yank slamming" I replied to a comment suggesting only "Americans 2.0" do this; a comment posted by someone who I assume to be American.
As for private space: all this photos are carefully staged and intended to be seen by millions of people, which kind of renders your argument invalid.
And if they do they must put their feet down?

I would argue that yes, a president should not be putting his feet/shoes on the resolute desk, which was a gift from Queen Victoria to the United States, and not the current president's personal property.whoosh wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:21 amA public figure can't stage a realistic photo reflecting how they relax at home or in the office for public viewing?Hanno wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:17 amNothing to do with "Yank slamming" I replied to a comment suggesting only "Americans 2.0" do this; a comment posted by someone who I assume to be American.

As a leader, I would also suggest that one does not lounge back in their chair and have their feet on their desk while their subordinates are speaking with them. That is disrespectful. Unless you're Kim Jong-Un, then you can do whatever the fuck you like.
Well, I guess that depends on if your office space is shared by a handful of Khmer lackies.
If you have a separate office possibly with a secretary posted out front. You can't put your damn feet up?!?
Can you loosen your tie a tad?

Good points but I'd argue that politicians are a different animal. They like to be seen as men of the people and down to Earth. Not aloof and distant from the electorate.Miguelito wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:28 amI would argue that yes, a president should not be putting his feet/shoes on the resolute desk, which was a gift from Queen Victoria to the United States, and not the current president's personal property.whoosh wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:21 amA public figure can't stage a realistic photo reflecting how they relax at home or in the office for public viewing?Hanno wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:17 amNothing to do with "Yank slamming" I replied to a comment suggesting only "Americans 2.0" do this; a comment posted by someone who I assume to be American.

Also don't forget a president lives in the White House, it's his home. So a little leeway should be given. It's not like he's parking his feet up at the UN.
Forget about that stuffy Queen Victoria. She'd probably turn her nose up at JFK when he had the temerity to let his son play in the Resolute Desk during that iconic photo series.
Also staff are hand picked, vetted and are a closer unit so I don't think feet on the desk is a factor.

Personally, I wouldn't put my shoes on my desk my hands will later go, my coffee rests on, etc (nor on a chair where someone else with nice trousers may sit, as there's a photo of Obama doing just that on AirForce One). Of all the photos, at least Trump had his shoes off. I don't think you'd find similar photos of European leaders, but I could be wrong.
But that's all null and void. The thread was about people doing it in public spaces, someone venting. I was rather pissed when someone laid down on a couch next to me in a lounge the other day, and fell asleep snoring loudly. Of course he can snore in his own bed; but in a lounge it was not acceptable (they even provide a napping room for that).

Actually the Japanese are the ones who used to consider everyone not Japanese as savages/not human. I don't think this is still true unless it is ones who still believe in the old values. Personally I take everyone as they come and try not to make generalities about nationalities unless the whole nation is being run in a warlike state. But then again it is the leaders and not necessarily the people.newnewnewbie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 10:29 amA lot of Americans consider anything outside of their borders as the savage lands. Israelis are often, young backpackers traveling in large groups, recently deployed from their conscription. The Brits are all polite, until the 3rd-4th GT, and then they start running naked through the streets. Germans are so correct and serious, it's hard to see if they even think they are on a vacation. The French are just rude, but we all knew that. But in the end, the most rude travellers are the domestic ones, coming out from the big city, and ordering everyone around from their 4x4's.

Funny, It looks like all of them except Trump are in some sort of official office in the White House. Just an obsevation. Now we need to find out if he is on Air Force One or one of his own jets.

It is at times like this that I particularly miss Khmer440 1.0
Despite our many disagreements, one thing that Pete and I were always in agreement about was the instant banning of people who disrespected our Royal Family.

Sounds reasonable. I would also include personalities like Beckham, Posh Spice, and Michael Caine, and all the Bond actors, among others.
