Not so much about the taxi ride, no.
Let's say there are three back stories to tell to start with. All part of a bigger story.
Making plot notes yet again now while I remember

What genre? People who have paid attention to me over the years will have an idea of what I like.
A new genre (Tarantino did it, why can't I?) but along the lines of action drama suspense dark sadistic terror. I'll need someone else to instill the lighthearted moments I think.
It is complex.
This is not a short story but maybe I have to write short stories and then thread them together....they are already linked together

Why not take an online Masterclass? There are several top writers that have put together courses, such as James Patterson and Judy Blume:

I give up. You're never going to get anything done on this story if you can't/don't want to use tropes and narrative conventions. You also don't seem willing to learn.violet wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 10:46 amWhat genre? People who have paid attention to me over the years will have an idea of what I like.

Wtf?
I'll reply because you seem to totally misunderstand me yet again.
I'm sorry, was there some unspoken expectation that I was supposed to come out swinging the lingo in order show my dedication to the cause?
Who said I can't and don't want to? Because I didn't jump on the opportunity to do so after you gave your input?
I don't seem willing to learn? Why, because I didn't use conventional narrative in response to a question on this thread.
Pity party. You give up....why, didn't I swoon enough over your contribution?
Who the fuc5ity fu5k do you think you are?
I just said thanks to people, I was making notes, I was looking at links, listening and reading, and progressing. Then you want to shit in me for not using tropes (fuck I hate that word. I hate it in my mouth as I form it in my mind, but I'm ok with the idea and of course they would be used).
Fu5k. What a c&$t.
Edit to add another comment on that awful word. It's barely been used on this forum since 2016 then it's all over the board in the past few weeks. It was already bugging the shit out of me before today

IMHO proper writers, artists etc, create out of some painful obsessive need, rather than the opposite - fame and acceptance.

Most successful writers write for themselves first. Getting published is, and is always going to be, an uphill road; unless you have family or friend ties in the industry. The other way is to get articles or short stories published by magazines so you get "Name recognition". Then you can approach publishers with some credits to your resume. I have always wanted to write, but realized I am too damn lazy. I did have the only article I ever submitted published by a fitness magazine so I am "Published", but no big deal. Good luck.

I'm not sure if you have me grouped in the former or the latter.spitthedog wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 12:14 pmIMHO proper writers, artists etc, create out of some painful obsessive need, rather than the opposite - fame and acceptance.

To clarify, I'm in the former....nutty as a fruitcake, tortured soul, only in need of my acceptance when it comes to this writing lark, and as obsessive as they come.
No shotgun. Unlikely to go for the ears, but you never know.
See
I just gotta write. I gotta.

The success is in my mind. It isn't about being famous. It's about needing to tell a story.Johnsell50 wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 12:24 pmMost successful writers write for themselves first. While I'd love what I write to also be successful, that's not the driver.
I would publish for free if I no-one else wanted to and i could just get the god damn thing out of me.
Congrats on being 'publushed'. It's really not on my mind. Getting a cohesive story on paper that does what is in my mind (and others) justice. That's what I want

I am also a BMI songwriter, and most of it was because I needed to get it out. some of the songs would not let me sleep until they were on paper. I had a #1 country song in the UK for 2 weeks and in the top 100 across Europe for 22 weeks. I made $8.41 because the singer didn't send over any CD's so all I made was on the airplay. LOL!

I'd feel successful with that, although the lack of financial recognition would probably smart

I used to write detective and whodunit novels a few years ago, so I can give you a hand if you wish?
Or did I?
