My number are very precise.
Many possibilities can cause cheaper prices. It's actually very easy to find cars selling for much less than the Import tax for a number of reasons.
Either it has been imported before 2019 and it must have sat around for a while. Or it's a cut and shut. Or the dealer bought it from someone that didn't need a plate, so never officially imported it, and told you that you are the first one to drive it here. Or it's not really a 2.5 but a 2.3xx Cc which is possible. Or it's a pick up/van so it pays less tax. Or he drove it himself/family/friend for a few years using the dealer paper (not sure if they also get a plate) instead of the normal plate. (Which is very common). Hyundai cars are really hard to sell, Khmer don't like them with the exception of minivans.

As per your last post, it's probably less tax as its a truck. I'm also wrong, it is a 2.6 not a 2.5.

For a 2600cc truck the tax is 5551$.
2.5 would have been 4395$
Considering the model and year close to 11k is actually a bit steep. 9k would have been ok. Those little old trucks from Korea are sold at auction for around 1k to 2k and transport is less than 1k. Profit margin for something like that is around 1k for the dealer.

Import duties rose by almost 50% last September or October, after the elections. Private sellers who bought before the hike and sell often aren't aware they're selling at a discount as their price doesn't reflect the new rates yet.
Sounds about right. The truck was $9500, but we spent another $1300 on 6 new tires, fluid changes, respraying the front and installing a box on the back, hence the $10,800 all in price.jackrossi wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 11:35 pmFor a 2600cc truck the tax is 5551$.

I checked the vehicle specs and its a 2,477 cc Engine. I will pass the Ministry of Finance one of these days and ask how much the tax will be.
This is the correct figure. I just had our new car registered today at the transport ministry and had a look at their tax rate table, and this is exactly what it said. For what it's worth, the plate fees were $275 for me a foreigner (no doubt charged extra for some tea money). For Khmer I was quoted $90.
Referring to my truck, it is a pickup work truck and that is why the tax was much less, just to put it out there.

Thanks Jackrossi, really good information.
Didn't they update it to 2006 (hence my number) since this year, did they ?To be specific it pays the same tax as 2004 model because that is the oldest acceptable import year for tax and duties.
Effectively all models 2004 and older pay the same tax and duties.
^^The table I looked at had 2004 as the "cut off" year, and it said at the top "Current rates as of January 2019", for what it's worth.
