Call it a late night walk home from the bar, an early morning jog, or just insomnia, but I just found myself out and about in the city at 2:30 AM. I strolled through Wat Botom Park, and was surprised to see about 200 people out and about, just chilling. They looked mostly around 20, and were in groups of 2-8 people, taking up the small bits of grass picnic style. It was pretty mixed gender, and everyone seemed pretty chill with a few beers and some individual music.
Is this common in all park areas (not that there are a lot)? I wonder if the Koh Pich riverwalk is similarly busy. It seemed like this could be a place to flirt and hang out for these kids. But 2:30 on a Monday night, anywhere in the world (other than Spain, of course), was a bit surprisingly to see, and certainly seems like a newer activity than just a few years before.
Monday night, in the park

Have seen the same (at midnight/1AM) a few times, when I have been in the area that late) over the past 6 months.
Even as recently as 2 or 3 years ago I doubt that it would have been the case.
The times they are a changing

There are a whole bunch of university students who frequent the area south of Himawari and do overnight parties there regularly.
I may be wrong, but I've been down there at 3:30 often and see large groups, I doubt they surreptitiously arrive at 3:15 and set up to deceive us.
The walkway south of Royal Palace is a nicer area than that north of it, the northern side seems to attract more ladyboys and weirdos

Nah Horace, it's changed a lot. Very common to see families with kids sitting out there at 9pm and afterwards, and then groups of friends having picnics/beers until much later on

What happened to all the pocket thievering ladies, with 'friends' hiding behind the foilage. Maybe times are truly changing for the better here?
There's a lot more money about and a huge number of young uns living in the city without parents.
It's a pretty cool scene around those cocktail carts. 5 dollah a jug or something. Quite normal young people can afford to share a jug.
