Don't think she's working. Married an American I think, two kids, lives on Riverside. Occasionally pops in Larrys. I think we are talking about the same girl.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 4:14 pmIs she really? She’s not a typical bar girl, not that I ever thought she was. Good English couple of kids?slavedog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 1:45 pmShe's still around and doing well.YaTingPom wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 1:38 pmSo Jim owned both. Oh I see.horace wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 12:36 pm^ Cali2 in its original location was a great place to hangout on the riverside for many years but Jim got shafted by a huge rent increase and moved. The second location was never as good as the first. Has the original building been occupied yet or does it still stand empty?
Not been up that way for a while. Shooters bar is/was for sale.
I met a very nice girl (not like that) who worked at Cali2. Sorted me out with a phone and all sorts. Sitha was her name.
I often wonder where she is now.
The original Cali 2 is now where Five Drunk Men is, I believe. All 2 or 3 floors totally renovated.
If you know where she works PM me. I lost her number ages ago.

It is not nostalgia, it was better back in the day.

Pre-lovely, lovely man? Edit; see even the use of f.a.g.g.o.t. has been expunged.
And might I clarify that f.a.g.g.o.t does not in this case mean gay male person. Sorry, wooftahs, you lost ownership of that word.
For what it's worth my ha'ppeny is that if you didn't get to see Cambodia say even before 2008 then sadly you kind of missed what made it fascinating. It wasn't like everywhere else, which was what made it special. Now it's like everywhere else, just less convenient.
Never, in the history of mankind, has a middle aged man in his 50s sat down and said : "Fuck, things are so much more fun now than when I was in my 30s."
Ever.
Ever.
I understand that it's hard for you guys to accept that you missed the point of the place. But you just did.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:21 pmNever, in the history of mankind, has a middle aged man in his 50s sat down and said : "Fuck, things are so much more fun now than when I was in my 30s."

Vietnam, for example, I much prefer now to the '90s.
Britain too as a matter of fact.
Felgerkarb and Playboy got it spot on. My first trip there was 1999. For 15 years I spend 6 months a year in Cambodia. What made it different was the grittiness. The expats for the most part were unique characters. Yes it was a close knit expat community. I have often said the glory days of Walkabout was a space in time and we were lucky enough to hit it at the sweet spot. Unfortunately life moves on and, "progress ", happens. When I am in Cambodia now two days is enough for PP then off to the countryside which I enjoy very much.
Johnny
Playboy excellent post. One of your better ones.

Plenty of Polish n German Jews would have said that, along with countless numbers of Cambodians and Rwandans and the like when looking back twenty years.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:21 pmNever, in the history of mankind, has a middle aged man in his 50s sat down and said : "Fuck, things are so much more fun now than when I was in my 30s."

Stupid statement .
k440, something to do when you're pissed.
Well it would be a stupid statement if it was meant to be taken quite literally, rather than as a throwaway line in the context of yet another ‘middle aged expat laments lost days in Cambodia’ thread on 440.
Why we are still hanging about is another story and one I can't answer for myself.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 10:27 pmWell it would be a stupid statement if it was meant to be taken quite literally, rather than as a throwaway line in the context of yet another ‘middle aged expat laments lost days in Cambodia’ thread on 440.
Something about a girl and an increasingly small circle of friends i like quite a lot and not knowing where else to go I suppose.
Bizarrely I wasn’t thinking of Churchill when I wrote that, but I can see where you’re going with that.
The difference of course is that his words mattered. Mine were meant as asinine bollocks to fill an idle few moments in the office and not to be taken seriously at all.
Let's recap then: A sort of snarky and puerile shoot-down of what I posted the other day, followed by a challenge or two, followed by a very quick but clumsy walk-back. Meanwhile a scolding for the sin of taking what you posted at face value (how dare we!).
If you post something stupid and someone points out that it's stupid, then own the stupid. Don't blame others for pointing it out. I'm sorry you arrived in Cambodia after it was cool. I know you can't help it. I am sure you are otherwise a nice person. You had street cred once for running this site for a short time, and now it's back to being a nobody. Don't come on here like you're King Dick and tell us all what's what. I think your sudden reemergence here is unnecessary and the posting a little haughty for someone who lived in PP for all of a few months.
