The Hong Kong Protests
I must say that I have been very impressed with the citizens of Hong Kong's protests. They have been going on for 11 weeks now, and still going strong.

Why aren't you sure if I'm being serious?
Do you oppose their actions of supporting their freedom and democracy? Would you prefer one country, one system?

Aren't Hong Kong protests more related to the good old British colonial days, than anything Chinesey?

Ok, I've changed the title. The topic is about the Hong Kongers and their resolve to take on both their local government and the Chinese government. Hats off to them, I say.spitthedog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:39 pmAren't Hong Kong protests more related to the good old British colonial days, than anything Chinesey?
Yes, it's related to the British in the fact that they negotiated a deal at the end of their lease. That deal, unsurprisingly, is being backed-out on by the Chinese government.

There you go. They don’t even speak the same language.Chneseexpat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 7:44 amOk, I've changed the title. The topic is about the Hong Kongers..
It’s like calling anyone with Chinese heritage “Chinese”, and due to your subject matter that would mean PRC Mainland Chinese.
Singaporeans, Taiwanese and many more get quite offended if you label them “Chinese”. It’s quite an ambiguous word though unqualified.
Personally i think the Brits should have kept that jolly splendid outpost. It used to be quite cheap.
