Cheap plastic sets are/were available from most book stores or Thai/Khmer wooden Ouk sets are/were being sold in both central n Russian markets.

I got a lovely one with unique pieces simply at Russian Market (inside, south-west corner of) donkeys years ago. The workmanship isn't going to make it an antique any time soon, but it is way nicer than a typical box set - and all for $10 or less.

It is not easy to find a decent chess set in Cambodia. I found one here in Siem Reap, but it is only a crummy plastic, lightweight set. Finding a nice, wooden or glass set would require ordering from elsewhere I believe. There is a small chess community on chess.com btw.
I know where to get awesome ones, not sure about really cool though.
