The original hipsters were from the Opium days at the beginning of the last century in NY and New Orleans . So called because one smoked lying down on ones hip. Obviously there were opium smokers long before this but that is when the term first came into use.
Takes a druggy to know useless shit like this .

Running a search on this site, it was first used as a term in 2005. It was then used 20 more times over the next 7 years, before it really took off as a term in 2012.
I think it was around 2010 that one of my beers of choice got labeled hipster. Sucks when something you really like then becomes trendy.

A hipster couldn't have said it any better.

Is it better to be called a "baller" than a hipster?
Quite similar in certain ways?

I do miss Ray Ban aviators and wayfarers, as they used to be cool before they became hipster. But I do like my Mont Blanc sunglasses I replaced them with.spitthedog wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 1:52 pmIs it better to be called a "baller" than a hipster?

I’ve always wanted Aviators or Wayfarers sunglasses, or those Oakley Jackets.
Sadly my prescription precludes me to have lenses too large.
I could wear them but I’d break them as I walk into a cow or a house. I’m that blind me.

Point of order, this sounds like Yuppie rather than Hipster.
Cohibas were never uncool, nor cheap, nor unavailable so they cannot, by definition, be ironically enjoyed.
For example, you could (can) buy Cohiba cigarettes, rarer than the cigars, from select mini marts around the city for at least 10 years.

Haha - my money’s on Playboy
Yacht Club? In the middle of Ballsack Lane! Nowhere near the water, and I've never even seen a yacht in PP's waterways.
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.
There was a Ream Yacht Club. Just had a few stand up boards and kayaks apparently. No a sail in sight, unless you count a table cloth blowing in the wind.
If anyone is coming down to Kampot can they bring me a Cuban cigar? I need it for the birth of my baby in now/October/November. It’s a tradition in my country. (So I told the wife as I gave up smoking years ago)
I swear I saw Felgerchrist on Ballsack Lane a few weeks ago. Oh well. He’s not here to defend himself so let’s assume he’s gone to the man-bun side. Yo.
