Expat Mental Health
Expat Mental Health
Today is World Mental Health Day evidently. I didn’t know there was such a thing.
A couple of articles I saw talked about expat mental health and how living in another country is meant to be very stressful. I can’t say I found it so, but there you go.
Having said that and after seeing enjoying the utter cocktrumpetry of some expats in the pages of 440 for years, it makes you wonder if there is some kind of expat mental health crisis in Cambodia. It’s been a pet theory of mine for a while.
Look at Greg Blake, Ricketson, Ann Snow, Peter David, the Pieman and of course anyone who drinks on St 51 etc. All of them are completely fucking hatstand. And let’s not forget our very own batshitcrazyweirdo and his hangers-on.
Is there a disproportionate degree of craziness in Cambodian expat circles and if so is it Cambodia that creates it, or were most of them nuts before they arrived?

This is why the forum is so dull nowadays. Someone takes the trouble to create a new thread - admittedly a rarity these days unless it’s another discussion about the Chinese in SHV - and they get shouted down.

My opinion is that most expats already have that little bit of crazy in them and the country of their choice to move to just suits their level of crazy.
That country can be some where in SE Asia, South America or what ever as it's not just SEA that attracts crazy people..

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

When a country's primary attraction is cheap booze, cheap drugs and cheap women, it tends to attract a proportionally high %age of unbalanced characters.
For many of those the tipping point is a question of time. A loser in the West doesn't become a successful character here, he might just take more time to be exposed as such.
We also all know many expats who could keep it together, those who tend to have stable jobs and relationships. But even among those stuff can happen that tips the scale towards a downward spiral.

Maybe your threads don't gain traction because they give off an air of snide aspersions cast from a distance as you smugly sip cheap Bourbon in the evening shade of your den and listen to the soft crackle and pop of a glowing hearth, quietly scoffing at a life left long ago and those sad pathetic souls who still remain.
Though I am surprised and mildly disappointed that you gave up so easily on the thread you created where you were ham-handedly attempting to obliquely insinuate vladimir in the case of the vile tefl jobber fired for overt sexual harassment and stalking of a female coworker.
In the right hands, that thread could have turned into gold.
Though credit is due. That thread did what I so longed and attempted to do.....
....get vladimir to commit himself to self appointed exile from the pages of 440 forevermore.
And for that you should be lauded.

I admire the people here who are able to keep a steady job, let alone a steady relationship. It's a nice place to spend your foreign income, and otherwise be free from a lot of western idiosyncrasies and live mostly under the radar, and away from regular modern society and rat race.

Nice underhanded blow to the bat, Scooby, seeing how I am the only active poster on 440 in the OP.
You want expats that may be mentally ill to give you information on expats mental health?
Nice. Come to the bat cave and tell me your opinion of mine. I won't get offended, nor will I get batshit. I think it's a good discussion ................... in the Bat Cave. Knock yersel oot.

I actually think this is pretty much true.
I think this is also true.Gaggy Bravy wrote: Maybe your threads don't gain traction because they give off an air of snide aspersions cast from a distance as you smugly sip cheap Bourbon in the evening shade of your den and listen to the soft crackle and pop of a glowing hearth, quietly scoffing at a life left long ago and those sad pathetic souls who still remain.
Nonsense. Your hangers on are very much active!batshitcrazyweirdo wrote: Nice underhanded blow to the bat, Scooby, seeing how I am the only active poster on 440 in the OP.
That's a good start. Now if someone could get that Kungfu person to stop ruining threads with streams of repetitive inanity that nobody wants to respond to, then things might improve 'round here.Gaggy Bravy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2019 5:32 pmThough credit is due. Well, Spicer, as you struggle to admit you missed the crazy times. In the '90s here everyone was fucking crazy by popular definition. My particular set are all dead bar a couple though I did meet Felgerkarb one evening in Martini and he's as sane as can be these days.
I do wonder if you suffer from mental angst yourself, as most do from time to time, as this subject is a refrain of yours and you are in fact a sensitive and kind man.
Don't know where I'm going with this but I'd say nutters are disproportionately attracted to the country. Jung wrote much about this thing - something about identifying with inner demons and the attraction to their reflection in the reality of outer demons.. Can't be bothered to look it up and reference it.
Night.

The country is itself a basket case, so it is no surprise there is a propensity for total nut bars to gravitate there. You dear Scobie are completely farking crackers, who else would have bought this site?

More street 172 and surrounding area in my view.
The rest of the place has been running pretty much the same for centuries.
A quick look around any random full stop sign here, would attest to that, IMO.
