It’s not often Cambodia makes the news in the U.K., but this story got a lot of coverage.
I’ve lost track of Cambodian football but that’s a massive tonking. I remember Australia once beating American Samoa by around 30 goals a decade or so ago, but this must be up there in the list of biggest defeats in international football ever.

As far as I can find out, it is the joint-second highest International defeat.
The highest is Australia 31-0 v American Samoa in 2001
The other score of 14-0 is Brazil v Nicaragua in 1975.
Third is Germany 13-0 v San Marino in 2008.

A bit more research says those results are nowhere near the highest springrain.
Just two days before the 31-0 match, Australia beat Tonga 22-0. And there have been similarly high scores as the article below shows.

***Hold on***
I've just checked out those scores you reported and there is no record of the 20-0 defeat by China! It didn't happen.
There is, however, a 20-0 defeat by Kuwait in 2000.

All of which goes to show that even FIFA spokespersons get it wrong and it is vital to check newspaper reports for oneself - the Irish Times has reported a falsehood without doing its homework!

What they need is a team of national unity.
