Cambodian leaders 'hiding assets overseas'
Cambodian leaders 'hiding assets overseas'
Excellent piece of investigative journalism by Reuters here:
"Cambodia’s long-ruling prime minister, Hun Sen, had gathered athletes at his imposing office for a televised pep talk. “I don’t want to mention politics,” he began quietly.
But he couldn’t help himself. It was December 2017. The main opposition party had just been outlawed, the latest move in Hun Sen’s campaign to eradicate his political rivals. The United States and European Union were threatening sanctions, and Hun Sen had a message for them.
“Just do it now if you are brave enough,” he taunted, bristling with outrage. There was no point in the West trying to seize the foreign assets of Cambodian officials, he went on, because they “wouldn’t be so damn stupid as to keep their assets overseas.”
But a Reuters investigation shows that those closest to Hun Sen have done exactly that. Family members and key police, business and political associates have overseas assets worth tens of millions of dollars, and have used their wealth to buy foreign citizenship – a practice Hun Sen has decried as unpatriotic and at times has sought to outlaw.

I think this move may have been inspired by "Trumpian philosophy", I think they should get Rudy Giuliani to investigate this one.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:48 pm

Where are you going to stash your cash when Corbyn gets in?
My stash is all over the world in a variety of different asset classes. But unlike the people in this story, every single penny i have is what I have earned through hard work and sacrifice, not inheritence, fraud or nepotism.
In the unlikely event that Corbyn was ever elected PM UK investments would take a hit, but that's why it's important to diversify and protect yourself.
Anyway, plenty of other threads to ruin wiht your Corbyn fixation. Let's keep this one on topic
Breaking news or just a conversation piece?
It’s been well know wealthy bastards (people who make a lot of cash) secrete their money because they can pay accountants and “money men” to do this for them.
Amazon, Apple, BP etc etc reduce their tax bill n cause they can. They all employ (guess) 500k people, who pay tax, buy cars, live, have kids who pay tax, get jobs etc etc.
The Panama papers (in my opinion the tip of the proverbial iceberg) exposed HE and his minions (‘Banana’) in those papers. Old news.
The fact is if you’re a wealthy bastard (family, nepotism, trust fund) you wouldn’t complain.
If you Dallow were from a wealthy family would you be so vehemently against these people?
That was a rhetorical question.

Of course they are, like the upper class in every country does. I hear Southern New Zealand is all the rage, as a safe haven from a global societal meltdown. We've seen how Asian nations can turn on a dime, but in the long run, it's between rivalling wealthy families the leadership of a country is fought for. The people who had to run from here after the Vietnam war, now living in California, France etc. are still bitter about it all.

I'm sure you have done all the necessary due diligence to make sure you have no blood on your hands.
How's the pension fund?

Up the workers!
"10s of millions". Is that the total off-shore assets for all HE's family? Because that is pocket change.

I sense a few DDs (disappointed despots) once the EU get stuck into Cyprus. London? No chance: unless Corbyn gets in.

The figure must be much higher than that.
I recall in the months leading up to the 2013 National Elections alone 10s of millions being shipped abroad.
A lot of it in cash, in suitcases, for those with diplomatic passports. Weekly flights to Singapore to just deposit money there and get it safe.

Not bad for a former office clerk.

The far left and the far right are the same thing. They have more in common than they have differences.
Pension fund is fine thanks. It's nice of you to ask.
