The Rising Sun..
... I heard from a reliable mate that the Sun is only going to shine for a few more months which I think is a shame. Since 2000 perhaps a year earlier or later serving good western food which in the early days was hard to find anywhere else, others tried but failed for a few years. Quite a few expats married the bar staff or introduced their prospective to Fish n Chips, Bangers n Mash , etc, for the first time.
Until I left three years ago twas my regular lunch time Tuesday feed , Pork Chop Tuesday and was the only place in town that would let me run up a bar tab, easier to pay wihen close to a hundred than to destroy their small bill till.
I expect to be back in PP in Sept 2019 so I really hope they are still alive n kicking but I doubt it.

That's a shame, but to be honest it's at least a year since I was there. Was going to head there for some Sunday roast with the kid a week or two back (his idea) but went elsewhere instead.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Lol, don't even know what month it ishalf the time let alone the year, back in PP this time next year, 2020, or earlier if my cards finally die.
Hash , yes , actually cheaper to buy smaller quanties, 10 or 20 grams in Spain than Morocco. I went up into the Rif mou tains and the fuckers only wanted to sell me a kilo at 2 euros a gram. Told em to fuck off , left the farm, not before taking some great plantation shots and ju ped back in the taxi who was waiting.
Seems to be three types of hash in Morocco, brown/ green which is the most common, soft, dry and doesn't need a prior burn to crumble and gives a very pleasant buzz but doesn't leave one in danger of falling over. A soft moist dark black which is rare and best only smoked in a hammock as walking and conducting any type of meaningful conversation is impossible and a hard dark brown which in London 30 odd yeas ago we would have called slate, needs a burn to crumble and gives a buzz between the other two.
Only the first one is available in Spain which is where I am currently. Going back to Morocco in Dec, straight up into the Rif mou tains to score and then two months in the Sahara and then a month up the Atlantic coast and back to Spain.
Spain and Morocco combined are the two most livable places for me outside of the Emerald Triangle/ French Indochina.

So will it become a Chinese hangout? Death coffee Co.? Or another Starbucks? They seem to open on every corner around here atm.
But saddening news indeed.

Used to go there for lunch on Saturdays before walking up to Rory's for an all day session. Very few daytime options then, with most places not opening till 4pm or later.
I seem to remember the fish burger was ok.

We drove down to Morrocco from London in 1994. Took the surfboards in and scored insane waves at immsouaine Point. I still remember the kids running out to the sides of the roads with massive house brick sized blocks of black sticky hash for a few dollars. We were throwing it away when we left. Stayed in Chefchouen ( sp ? ) up in the Rif mountains and went out to a dope farm to see how they made the stuff in a big old press. That black shit fucks you up good and proper. Morrocco is a must if you get the chance though probably fucked now with too many youtubers down there....horace wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2019 11:15 pmLol, don't even know what month it ishalf the time let alone the year, back in PP this time next year, 2020, or earlier if my cards finally die.

We went down to Agadir in January 1972. Bought a pound of the sticky black stuff from a hitchhiker at the Spanish border. It cost twenty quid and a broken watch. Really strong and still had a lot left after a couple of months, posted what was left to London but it never arrived.

from a friend
please post and tell them that the Rising Sun is NOT closing permanently, just for a few days after tomorrow so that staff can return home. That’s straight from the horses mouth. I just asked her and she was genuinely surprised at my question
