The Laundromat a new film about the Paradise Papers on Netflix
The film, The Laundromat, is due to be released on Netflix at midnight on Friday in the US, and stars Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas as Jurgen Mossack and Ramon Fonseca.
Panama Papers law firm Mossack Fonseca sues Netflix over The Laundromat
Mossack and Fonseca sued Netflix this week alleging that the film portrayed them as “ruthless uncaring lawyers who are involved in money laundering, tax evasion, bribery and/or other criminal conduct” and sought a court ruling preventing the film being released.
“While entertaining and largely comedic, it is intended to bring attention to the abuse of offshore shell corporations and tax shelters, and it is an indictment of the legal system that permits them,” Netflix said.
“Clearly, [their] reputations were sullied long before the release of [The Laundromat].”
Mossack and Fonseca, while given the same names in the film, are “palpably farcical characters”, Netflix said in the court filing.
“They are cartoonish narrators who set up shell corporations around the world; it does not depict them as direct participants in criminal activity.
“Rather, the film saves its pointed critiques for the opacity of the global banking system and the systemic corruption of wealthy individuals that permit that system to perpetuate itself.”
In addition to the Panamanian charges against Mossack and Fonseca, which they are fighting, four men associated with the firm have been charged with tax crimes in the US.

Up the workers!
Yup . . That was superb.
I've just finished the first series of True Detective. Very good.
Starting on series two tonight.
Check out Elites, a Spanish Netflix series. Pretty heavy stuff despite taking place in a posh private high school. Too unPC to be broadcasted on mainstream media.

The first season of True Detective was great. The second season was panned heavily. I thought it was alright, but not near the first. Havent seen the third series yet which has gotten good reviews.Dallow Spicer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 2:23 am

Baby Yoda is super cute. The rest of The Mandalorian is pretty good too.
I never watched much Youtube aside from the occasional links others would post on forums here and there. I'm watching Youtube channels almost exclusively lately though.
There is this bald English guy fluent in Russian doing unusual travel logs from places like Belarus. Chechnya, Dagestan. Some rural India too but mostly former Soviet states. Not particularly exciting stuff, but a glimpse into life in pretty rough places most of us will never see. His channel is getting quite popular with well over 1 million subscribers.

Another similar travel channel is Indigo Traveller also doing off-the-beaten-path stuff. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc. His series of videos from Venezuela were particularly good, I thought.

^ ^ Is it wrong to have the total horn for a girl because she's really clever?
And to have said it twice.
What if she's not a girl?

I’m surprised no one has mentioned The Irishman. Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, Pacino - all at their best. Brilliant.
