What is Thailand so jealous of exactly then mate? (Apart from Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge, a notoriously shite health system, Gary Glitter, and The Singlet Twins).
It can't be the fact that Cambodia was once a huge area of SE Asia as i doubt that's taught in Thai schools.
"I don't care what the people are thinking, i ain't drunk i'm just drinking"
I think he’s alluding to the 100 odd years of French influence in Cambodia, whilst the latter were defending Cambodia’s interests and fighting the froggys.
The images I’ve seen of Cambodia in the 50s looks like a prosperous modern place, not sure if Thailand was in the same position.
Or, the fact the Khmer empire owned most of Siam for hundreds of years and Thailand were basically their bitches. They are certainly jealous of Angkor Wat hence “Siem Riep”.
In your face Siam!

Simple. You're place isn't better good then he's location.
Thais always feared Khmers for their black magic. I don’t think either country hates the other despite the bad history. Half of Cambodia was stolen in the 1900s and only given back as war reparations post WW2.
I think the black magic exponents were the Cham weren’t they?

The western part of Cambodia was returned from over a century of Thai control in 1907, then seized again along with extended territory in the north including Stung Treng in 1941 after the Franco-Thai War. It was returned to French Indochina in 1946.crazyjohn wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 7:46 pmThais always feared Khmers for their black magic. Cambodia certainly wasn't modern or prosperous in the 50s. In the late 50s and early 60s there was a lot of development aid put in by the US, France, China and other countries. There are videos, particularly the one from the Sangkum Reastre era made in 1965, that make the country look very developed. They don't show the reality, they just show recent developments. Outside of those locked off shots of clean boulevards and new streets the place was the same as ever. Stilted houses over ponds, thatch roofs, livestock wandering around below.

Here's a view of Psah Thmey from Kampuchea Krom in the early 60s:
