Tried to get up there last week - no can do (even after offering the guy on the gate $10 to let me through!!).

I was told by 4 different sources that there is heavy construction going on and they don't want the aggro of dealing with tourist who get hurt/killed by the huge lorries ploughing up and down the mountain all day.

At present, the only way up is with a tour.

Please let me know if anyone hears differently.

Sunday night and we just got backfrom there. We tried a $100.00 "donation" and still couldn't get through. We were told (I think) that there are not even tours going up any more. Had a lovely time on Rabbit Island instead.

Still closed, they let a few people up over Khmer New Year. The good news is that it should be finished in about 15 years.

Why would people want something like that in a far away place like bokor? Unless they build an airport with direct connection to mainland China wont the Chinese just go to Macau? There's not even enough tourists in Cambodia to make Phnom Penh look crowded or busy.. How are they going to fill this place?

You're quite right. It's not for the Chinese. It's more for the people in the region, SEA. Even though some of them too have their own casinos or are building them.

So Thais, Khmers, Vietnamese and Laotians are going to fill up these $200-500 a night hotels and spend hundreds of dollars in the Casinos? What's the minimum bet in the PP Casino? $5? (or was it $2? I don't remember) Last time I was there it was about 100 people there. 99% of which looked and sounded very Chinese. If the "people in the region, SEA" don't gamble much in PP, why is it assumed that they will travel all the way up to Bokor to gamble?

I was up there over Khmer New Year - the only thing that has been constructed as far as I could see was the sign!

It smelt of poo and there was loads of rubbish everywhere.

is this reminding anyone else of that dodgy bokor casino redevelopment in the film City of Ghosts?

does anyone expect to believe this place would fill up its rooms? china has macau, malaysia and indonesia have genting (and now singapore soon), the only patrons would be the viets and the thais who probably wouldnt even bother with bokor unless it was fast and easy to get to.

I was thinking the same thing! :D It even looks slightly similar.

If only it were just a scheme to swindle some investors out of their money and in the end Bokor remains just the way it is now.. :pissed:

Hey, I didn't say it'd actually fill up! I just said that's the target market.

There'll be more than just the casino. Lots of rides, I think 36 holes of golf, a cable car up the mountain. It'll be a family place.

The investor is Sokha or it's parent company, not sure.

I couldn't care less whether it's successful or not.

Wont be hard to do, with the fall of the USA empire, and the USA $ trading at $1 to 1 yuan, and the rest of the world trading in ''Islamic dollars ''
