Bike Confiscations in Snooky

Just to let everyone know that the Cambodian Drivers licence crackdown is on again in Snooky

Yesterday morning I am riding my fiancée’s Aunties newish moto down to a friends bar and at the Golden Lions roundabout they had police (the boys in blue plus the Military Police) at every road going into the roundabout pulling almost everyone over

They pulled me over and told me to go to a table Lots of Barangs and Khmers were around.

The Khmers were showing their rego documents.

Thinking of the recent rental crackdown I get out my Cambodian Drivers Licence and show that to them and tell them I live here and that it was not a rental bike. Very quickly they let me go with one telling the other I had a Cambo licence.

Shortly thereafter my friend and I ride past them again going out into town and they try to stop us I pointed to the table and rode off.

On the way back my friend who has a new moto and papers (whilst awaiting his rego plates) is pulled over. His bike is confiscated as he did not have a Cambo licence and he needs to go and get it back in 3 days time (and of course pay) . He said over 60 bikes were loaded onto a truck and taken away whilst he was there.

Apparently all Barangs without a Cambo Licence had their bikes (mostly rental) confiscated.

I talked to another friend/visitor who was on a rental bike and he told me that they had tried to pull him off his bike by grabbing his shirt as he rode past them; he went straight back to the rental company gave the bike back and got his passport back.

So this rubbish is happening again down there - Barangs need a Cambo Licence but no Motodop needs one!!!; not too far away from Khmer New Year.

Cheers

Stop me if you've heard this one:
How / where do I get a cambo license?
If i'm gonna be in a moto-jousting contest, I dont want to lose my pink baja BEFORE the big event.
Thx,
L.I.

You can get a license from lucky in PP.
The moto dopes have all paid ten dollars each in the past to have a ban on rentals put in place. I guess the rental companies will all pay some money to have it lifted again. Just another way the moto’s and police are killing the country’s tourist industry. Motodope same same Jawel (Khmer for robber)

Southman,

How much does a drivers license cost from Lucky. Also how long does it take to get it.

K
Correct

I just renewed mine on Monday; they are only good for one year and mine was 2 days out of date when I showed the police

It was $35 at Lucky Lucky (on Monivong just south of st184) in the past but the cost has come down

A fake licence is $5 or so cheaper and faster but it is a fake

cheers

lawd gawd a'mighty -
"A fake licence is $5 or so cheaper and faster but it is a fake."

Reminds me of where I used to work.
We'd look at a picture and someone would say
"Yeah, but they're FAKE tits!"
And I'd say "Yeah, but they're GOOD fake tits!"
SOOO? How good is a fake licence?

Pretty good. I think mine is fake and I’ve even used it at home when stopped for running a stop sign. It works in Thailand as well. Just get it laminated and it will be hard to tell the difference.

I got popped just outside of town last week. I'd just bought a bike and don't have anything official for it yet. Luckily the cops must have wanted some beer soon because they charged us $5 (for three bikes). Shockingly, they didn't have change for a $10. Still better than having my bike carted off along with my mom and uncles rentals.

Some if not most of the bikes we drive are without regular papers in order to avoid import duties.
Do they check also this or do they care only about driving licence?

was trying work up a riposte to
"Shockingly, they didn't have change for a $10."
and segue into reference to a movie i once saw
called "Spanking the Monkey", when i noticed -
"I’ve even used it at home when stopped for running a stop sign."
where's home?
